Mumbai: The Indian rupee gained 13 paise to Rs 45.55 against the US dollar in early trade on the Interbank Foreign Exchange today, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and weakness of the greenback against other Asian currencies.

The rupee had gained 4 paise against the US dollar to close at Rs 45.68/69 in the previous session on Friday.

Dealers said in addition to dollar weakness against other Asian currencies overseas, a higher opening in the stock market supported the rupee sentiment today.

The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex shot up by 211.55 points, or 1.19 per cent, to 17,940.16 in opening trade today.
