Mumbai: The Indian rupee strengthened by 14 paise to Rs 44.34 per dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on Wednesday, supported by a higher opening in the stock market and dollar`s weakness against major currencies.

The rupee had depreciated by 3 paise to close at Rs 44.48/49 a dollar in the previous session.

Forex dealers said dollar weakness against major currencies overseas and a higher opening in the stock market, kept the rupee sentiment firm.
