Questions have been raised concerning the timing of former Odisha Health Minister Naba Das’ death following his arrival at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The post-mortem report, obtained by OTV, raises doubts about whether he was alive upon arrival at the hospital.

Naba Das was shot on January 29, 2023, around 12:15 pm in the afternoon and was immediately transported to Jharsuguda District Headquarters Hospital, before being airlifted to Apollo hospital in Bhubaneswar.

The post-mortem, conducted at 10:45 pm on the same day, suggests that Das’ death occurred within six hours of the procedure. This indicates that his death might have happened before arriving at the Bhubaneswar facility, contradicting statements from the Crime Branch which asserted that he died while being treated at Apollo Hospital.

The report mentions substantial cardiac damage as the primary cause of death, directly linked to the gunshot wound. Amidst these findings, questions linger about the exact time and place of the former minister’s demise.

Following the development, the discrepancy in timing will be now a focal point of inquiry.

Further questions have also been raised about how such a critical patient could be airlifted with a chopper without any support of health equipment.

In the post-mortem report, it has been mentioned that the death of the deceased is due to cardiac systole arising out of cardiogenic shock.

According to health expert Shami Salim, cardiogenic shock means he has been shot in the heart and there is huge bleeding. In these cases, a person succumbs only in three minutes.

“The injury report, post-mortem report and the circumstances suggest that there has been instant death. The ECG report also suggests death. As per medical science, it is very unlikely that the patient was alive while being shifted to Bhubaneswar. He was airlifted in a helicopter without a ventilator and Oxygen. In this case, it was not possible that the patient was alive,” said Salim.
