The huge backlog of pendency in land-related cases in the Board of Revenue will be disposed of expeditiously. The Board of Revenue member CJ Venugopal and additional chief secretary of the Revenue and Disaster Management department Deo Ranjan Singh said this in an affidavit they filed in the High Court on Tuesday.
The affidavit was submitted on behalf of the Odisha government during the hearing of a petition filed for speedy disposal of cases.
As per the affidavit, the cases relating to land records pending in the Revisional Court will be disposed of expeditiously. The court will function at least three days a week.

According to the affidavit, as of now, as many as 1,31,000 cases are pending in the Board of Revenue. To reduce the load of old cases, the Revenue Divisional Commissioner, Central Division and Director of Land Records and Survey (LRS) have conducted meetings. The presiding officer and the court officer will ensure every day 50 cases will be heard, the affidavit mentioned.
“In the affidavit, they said the 40 courts functioning to dispose of revision cases will function at least for three days a week. Earlier, we noticed the court would remain closed for five days a week. Every day 50 old cases will be taken up for admission. Most importantly, the report will come within 45 days,” said Manmay Kumar Das, advocate, Orissa High Court.
