Ahead of the festive season, the Commissionerate Police on Wednesday arrested five hard-core criminals and recovered five pistols and 50 rounds of live ammunition.

The accused include Satyajit Jena, Durga Das Nanda, Asik Samal, Mohammad Rahim, and Wasim. Of the five accused, two are said to be the associates of gangsters Dhala Samant brothers.

Cuttack DCP Pinak Mishra said, “Already focus is given on organised crime and petty offences in the city. The Special Squad along with police stations are on alert mode.”

According to Mishra, illegal arms are also a major concern and regular drives are being launched in the city. It is the special squad’s duty to keep surveillance on such criminal activity, he added.

The DCP further informed that all the arrested accused are involved in various crimes and also used to smuggle firearms. All the accused are related to each other and were arrested in the past also.

“We have got some credible inputs about persons who are staying in Cuttack and committing crimes in neighbouring districts. We will soon initiate action,” Mishra added.
