Tension erupted at a private engineering college under Airfield police limits in Bhubaneswar after some unidentified miscreants allegedly hurled two bombs targeting the education institution late on Saturday night. Several students of the college were reportedly injured in the attack.
Though the exact reason behind the bombing is yet to be ascertained, it is believed that it might be a fallout of past rivalry.
Sources close to the development informed that past enmity between two student groups might be the reason behind the bomb hurling.
According to sources, two student groups- one from Odisha and another from Bihar had been at loggerheads since long. But the situation worsened when a student was attacked by the other group last night.
The bombs were hurled when one of the student's group was leaving the hostel in a bus, sources informed, adding that the hostel superintendent was also attacked during the clash.
Meanwhile, several purported videos of the violence inside the college campus have surfaced where the students can be seen creating a ruckus and attacking each other.
An FIR in this regard has been lodged at Airfield police station and an investigation into the matter is on.
The college declared closure sine die, apprehending further unrest, sources informed.
No comments from the police or college authorities could be obtained over the matter.
