In a major announcement on Wednesday, Reliance Jio revealed that due to the undergoing regulatory policy changes for mobile-call-related charges, the Telecom major is compelled to recover interconnect user charge ( IUC ) for NON-Jio mobile voice calls.
As per the new policy, all calls to NON-Jio mobile numbers will be charges at 6 paise/minute, from the next recharge, post October 10, 2019. It however said that free Jio to Jio calls continue on all plans.
Meanwhile, the sudden announcement has drawn mixed reactions from the customers with #BoycottJio trending on Twitter. While some have said that they will switch to other networks through Mobile Number Portability (MNP), others have found the #BoycottJio trend ridiculous citing that the rates charged by other Telecom majors are comparatively higher.
"Highly ridiculous to find #BoycottJio trending. Over that other companies like Airtel trying to poach customers on such tweets! Same companies who were charging Rs 650 for 3GB data in a month and Rs 320 for 28 days validity plus 87 minutes calling before Jio's arrival. Reliance Jio is not a business only! It is a telecom revolution," Chirag Kedia backed Jio.
Another Tweep said, "I am not going to #BoycottJio. I will only shift when Airtel or Vodafone can beat this beast speed. And also it's just 6p/min, that too only on Jio to other networks. NO BIG DEAL."
However, there were some who criticised the Jio's new mobile call rates.
"Please guys.. switch to BSNL & help revive this ailing enterprise. You will help the economy and millions of worried BSNL staff will give you blessings," said Arpita Mukherjee.
"Never used Jio even during its peak but it seems Jio has traited its own customers. Use Airtel or BSNL," said Soham Gupta.
