Throwing an open challenge to the Commssionerate Police, miscreants have unleashed fear among the residents of Bhubaneswar with a series of loots from several apartments in the smart city ahead of the festive season.
A day after some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted 500 grams of gold ornaments worth lakhs from a scientist’s flat in an apartment in Chandaka area on the outskirts of the capital city, another loot incident was reported from the same apartment on Sunday.
According to sources, some goons have allegedly looted gold jewellery worth Rs 20 lakh from the flat of a software engineer while the latter along with his wife had gone to their village for Nuakhai celebration.
“On our return to the flat yesterday, we found the door broken. When we entered the house, we found everything in a mess and gold jewellery and other valuables were missing,” the software engineer said.
“There is no record about who is entering the premises. Surprisingly, the CCTVs are also not functioning,” he added.
Raising security concerns, another resident of the apartment said, “Being a senior citizen, I opt to live in an apartment considering it safe. But the series loot has unleashed fear. There is no compound wall and the CCTVs are not functioning either.”
It is worthwhile to mention here that, at least 500 grams of gold ornaments worth lakhs were allegedly looted from a scientist’s flat in the apartment while he had gone to visit his son in Europe.
As per reports, another theft bid by some miscreants wearing masks at an apartment in the Trisulia area, Cuttack on Friday night has been recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the nearby area.
Homeowners in the apartment reportedly hit the streets on Saturday demanding proper security arrangements.
