Bhopal: Union Tourism Ministry has set an ambitious target of tapping one per cent of the world tourism market by the end of 12th Five-Year Plan (2012-17).

"India`s share of world tourism market at present is only 0.58 per cent. Our target is to take this share to at least one per cent by the end of 12th Five-Year Plan," Tourism Minister Subodhkant Sahai told reporters here on Tuesday. "There is a need to involve states to ensure inter- departmental convergence as well as enhanced budget outlays for tourism. Tourism has to be made an important part of economic and political agenda of the states."
