If you are planning to fly out this holiday season, be ready to spend more than usual as airlines have hiked ticket prices. The rise in ticket prices is attributed to the hike in prices of jet fuel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) by government-owned oil companies.
It has prompted the airlines to hike ticket prices for passengers ahead of the Christmas and New Year vacations. The price was hiked following the announcement of an increase in the price of aviation turbine fuel by oil companies from December 1.
While some airlines have already announced the hike in ticket prices, some other airlines are expected to announce it soon.
“Normally pricing depends upon demand and supply. Airlines can better answer about the price hike of tickets,” said Prasanna Pradhan, Director of Bhubaneswar Airport.

“Following the price rise, it will be very difficult for the common man to travel by air. It’s better to travel in trains now,” said Karan Choudhury, an air passenger.
The price of jet fuel, or Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF), was raised by Rs 1,318.12 per kilolitre, marking a 1.45% increase, bringing the cost to Rs 91,856.84 per kl in New Delhi. The national capital hosts one of the busiest airports in the country, according to state-owned fuel retailers.
The price of ATF in Mumbai was raised to Rs 85,861.02 per kilolitre, up from Rs 84,642.91 previously.
Under the circumstance, it has been demanded that different states should reduce VAT on oil.
