Chennai: With the global economic crisis influencing the economies of the world, even humanitarian deeds of the United Nations will soon become difficult, a UN official on Wednesday said.

Montserrat Feixas Vihe, chief of mission, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), said, "We are supporting the repatriation. But with the global crisis, chances are that, not only UNHCR, but all humanitarian agencies may have less money and so it will be more difficult for us to suppoort refugees".

"If it takes too long for refugees to go back, support from donors will be less," she elaborated on the sidelines of a panel discussion on `Changing international scenario and the refugees in South Asia`.

UNHCR is supporting the refugees financially to go back to their countries if and as they desire. Thousands of Sri Lankan Tamil refugees are living in the refugee camps in Tamil Nadu.
