Patna: CPI today flayed the Centre for opening up the retail sector for foreign direct investment and said that it would jeopardize livelihood of over five crore small traders and their families.

"The UPA government has hatched a conspiracy to jeopardize the livelihood of over five crore small traders and their families by allowing FDI in the retail sector," CPI state committee member Md Jabbar Alam said in a statement.

Alam said that his party supported the bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders on December one to protest the FDI in retail sector.
