Chandigarh: Industry body CII on Friday sought fiscal incentives on the lines of hilly areas and faster GST implementation from 14th Finance Commission in a meeting held here.
"To bring in transparency and enhance ease of doing business in India, more tax mobilisation, efforts should be stepped up for faster implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST)," said D L Sharma, Chairman, CII Punjab State Council.
"By adoption of favourable trade policies and supportive infrastructure Punjab can cash in a lot by cross-border trade.
"Therefore we demand International trade related infrastructure in the six border districts of Amritsar, Tarntaran, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Ferozepur and Fazilka like SEZs, investment zones and manufacturing clusters. Also Integrated logistics centres should be set up at International Border Trade Points- Wagah, Hussainiwala," he added.
"Despite being the Manchester of Punjab, Ludhiana does not have renowned institutions of higher education. Therefore, special grants should be made available for the establishment of World Class University; Indian Institute of Management (IIM); National Institute of Design (NID)," said Dinesh Gupta, Convener, CII Mandi Gobindgarh Core Group & Managing Director, Parbhat Heavy Forge Pvt Ltd.
"To control the ever increasing level of pollution in the industrial town of Ludhiana establishment of an Effluent Treatment Plant for the Textile Dyeing Industry is a must. We seek a grant of Rs 437 crore for this task," he added.
"For reviving the economy of debt ridden state of Punjab immediate reforms are needed. For this CII seeks special grant in aid for master planning, land acquisition and construction of infrastructure in Manufacturing Zones along Amritsar- Delhi- Kolkata Industrial Corridor.
"We also recommend allocation of funds for establishment of Textile parks, National Manufacturing & Investment Zones and Industrial Focal Points," J B S Sangha, Vice Chairman, CII Jalandhar Zonal Council & Proprietor, Beas Cold Storage.
