As devastating floods continue to wreak havoc in Kendrapara district, a new danger has gripped the residents — the fear of crocodile attacks. Several crocodiles have been spotted in the flood-affected areas of the Chaudakulat region.

With the Brahmani River overflowing and floodwaters entering villages, the presence of these reptiles has triggered panic among locals. People are terrified and reluctant to step out of their homes, especially at night, fearing potential crocodile encounters.

Authorities are yet to confirm any incidents, but the looming threat has added to the residents' distress during this natural calamity.

Meanwhile, the Forest Department is making people aware not to enter the water to avoid crocodile attacks. Wading through flooded areas is not safe, and hence, residents of the flooded areas have been advised to remain alert as the crocodiles may venture into their areas.

As per reports, the district administration is trying to provide dry food and drinking water to the flood-affected people of around 30 villages.

With a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, IMD has predicted heavy rain in several parts of Odisha from July 23. It has also been predicted that coastal and northern regions may receive significant rainfall under the influence of the low pressure. Amid such a forecast, the flood situation in Kendrapara may further worsen.
