Youth tied, thrashed on suspicion of theft

Berhampur: An angry mob brutally thrashed a youth in Barida (A) village under Kabisuryanagar police limits today suspecting him of being a thief.

As per reports, some villagers tied the youth to a pole and beat him for hours before police rescued the youth. The identity of the youth is yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, police have detained the youth for interrogation.

In a similar incident, the head of a youth was shaved off and beaten for two days in Badachadiapada village.

There have been a series of incidents of theft in the region but police is not taking any step even though several complaints have been made. Left with no choice, people here are taking law into their hands, a local alleged.

"A gang of thieves is suspected to be behind the cases of thefts. We will nab all the culprits soon," said a police official.
