A giant King Cobra was rescued from a canal at Jagapur village under Dasapalla forest range in Nayagarh district on Thursday.

According to sources, the villagers received the surprise of their life when they spotted the giant reptile in a canal in the village. As the news spread, villagers and people from nearby villages throng the spot to have a look at the reptile slithering in the canal. Some were seen clicking photographs of the snake.

Meanwhile, some villagers had alerted the Forest department.

Later, a Forest department team reached the spot and rescued the snake. The snake was then released into its natural habitat in nearby Takera forests.

When asked, forest guard Shravana Kumar Baliarsingh said, “It might have come down from nearby Hariom hill to quench thirst.”
