The geotechnical investigation for the proposed Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project on the stretch between Nandankanan in Bhubaneswar and Trishulia in Cuttack is underway. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is carrying out the survey.

While the investigation to ascertain the soil's bearing capacity has reached the final stages at two to three places, the exercise is on at several points on the 26-kilometre-long stretch.

As per reports, the DMRC will be conducting such tests every one kilometre on the 26-kilometre stretch between Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) and Trishulia Square, following which it will submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the government.

As part of the survey, the DMRC will also check the quality of the water under the soil at the specific spots where the pillars of metro rail would be erected.

It is worthwhile to mention here that, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had approved the proposal for the metro train service on the occasion of Utkal Dibasa (April 1) 2023.

In the first phase, it will cover areas of airport, railway station, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Patia, Nandankanan, and Trishulia.

As per reports, the proposed metro train service will be extended to Puri and will connect the pilgrim town with Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.
