Dreaded criminal nabbed after police encounter in Aska

Berhampur: A criminal wanted in several cases was today caught by police following a scuffle near Karanjei chhak under Aska police limits in wee hours today.

Acting on a tip-off, local police officials were frisking vehicles near Karanjei chhak when the dreaded criminal Anant Narayan Patnaik along with an aide crossed the locality on a motorcycle. The police present tried to stop them but the criminal fired upon the cops.

In retaliation the police fired injuring Anant at his right leg. However, Anant’s aide managed to escape.

The police seized a pistol and two rounds of live bullets from the possession of Anant.

Initially he was taken to Aska hospital and later shifted to MKCG hospital for treatment.

The police have also launched a manhunt to nab Anant’s aide.

Yesterday, a wanted criminal Babu Nayak was caught following an exchange of fire with police in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam.

A pistol, live ammunition, crude bomb, detonators and nearly one kg worth gold ornaments were also seized from Babu’s possession.
