Rourkela: A couple was arrested in Rourkela for allegedly defrauding people of Rs 17 lakh on Wednesday.
The arrested couple, Damayanti Sahu and Soumya Kanta Sahu of Naharakanta in Bhubaneswar used to target innocent people on the pretext of facilitating loans for them from microfinance companies and cheat them in fraudulent manners.
Both used to give a little amount of the loan to the real beneficiaries and take rest of the amount assuring them to repay the loan to microfinance companies.
The couple also have taken loans from the companies by submitting fake documents of others.
Police have intensified the probe to elicit more information and others’ involvement in the fraud.
