Odisha’s first and country’s second registered vehicle scrapping facility (RVSF) has come up at Kumarbasta in Khordha district. The scrapping facility is a joint venture between Tata Motors and Empreo Premium. Vehicles aged over 15 years and not having fitness certificates will be scrapped as per the guidelines.
As per official reports, around 10,000 to 12,000 vehicles every year and 1,000 vehicles per month can be handled and scrapped at the unit. On a daily basis, around 40 vehicles can be scrapped here at the facility.
As per the previous announcement, the process of scrapping of old government vehicles was taken up and the registration for scrapping of private vehicles has also started.
Odisha state Transport Minister, Tukuni Sahu said, “We urge people to come forward and avail the scrapping facility. They will get numerous benefits from dealers and other government benefits. We have taken up government vehicles in the first phase. The scrapping centre has been inaugurated and new centres will be opened in the coming days.”
“It is Odisha’s first registered vehicle scrapping unit. This is first step towards handling old vehicles and setting up a process which is world standard for disposal. First engine oils, fuel will be separated along with rubber, glass and other items. Most of the items will be recycled, including gear parts. It is a big step as some parts will be reused like rubber and other high-cost items like aluminium and nickel,” said Rajesh Kaul, business head, Tata Motors.
Empreo Premium chairman, Gangadhar Samal said, “As per the government guidelines, government vehicles will be scrapped here. For private, no specific guidelines have come on whether the vehicles will be brought by them or by us. The Centre is also in the process of extending facilities to customers and talks are underway with various companies.”
The Process For Private Vehicles
Mohammad Azhar, CEO Empreo Premium said that private individuals can apply through the government portal of the Ministry. Then they need to click their nearest RVSF centre. Then customers need to upload details like a picture of the vehicle and registration certificate.
The data will be received at RVSF centre and then an officer will inspect and quote the value of the vehicle. Only after the customer accepts the quote, he/she will be given the payment along with a certificate of deposit which will be valid for two years. When the customer buys a new vehicle, he/she will get 5% benefit on the base price by showing the certificate of deposit and the registration fee for the car segment will be 0 and 25 % tax will be waived for two-wheelers, informed Azhar.
“If any person doesn’t buy a new vehicle, then they can apply through the government portal to sell the certificate of deposit. If the value is 50,000, the certificate of deposit will be transferred to another buyer,” he added.
