In a tragic road mishap, two female students of Kanak Manjari Women’s College lost their lives after being hit by a speeding car near Barigaon on National Highway-20 in Keonjhar's Anandapur on Saturday.
According to sources, the victims from Belbahali village had gone to their college as usual on Saturday morning. After finishing their classes, the two friends were returning home on bicycles when the car allegedly lost control and rammed into them. Both students sustained grievous injuries and died on the spot.
Following the incident, tension gripped the area as locals staged a road blockade, demanding strict action against the driver and adequate compensation for the victims’ families.

Police reached the spot to pacify the agitating crowd and have begun an investigation into the cause of the accident. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and efforts are on to trace the vehicle involved in the fatal crash.
Worth mentioning, a day back, a car travelling from Bhubaneswar to Sambalpur lost control and rammed into a divider, resulting in the death of a woman passenger. Two others in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and were immediately shifted to VIMSAR Hospital in Burla for treatment.
The driver is suspected of losing control at high speed, causing the car to crash violently against the divider. The collision was so harsh that the vehicle was badly damaged in the impact. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine whether speeding or mechanical failure caused the accident.
