A tragic road accident in Kandhamal district’s Daringbadi on Friday left three young men dead, casting a pall of gloom over the locality. The accident occurred near Duluri, a stretch known for its scenic routes but also sharp turns and forested terrain.
According to preliminary reports, the victims hailed from Rutungia area under Baliguda Police Station limits. The three youths had travelled together on a single motorcycle to visit Daringbadi, often called the ‘Kashmir of Odisha’ for its pine forests and cool climate. Their excursion, however, ended in tragedy.
Eyewitnesses said that while the bike was heading towards the pine forest, the rider lost control of the vehicle. In a matter of seconds, the motorcycle veered off its path and rammed into a roadside tree with great force. The impact was so severe that none of the three could survive the crash. They succumbed to their injuries on the spot.

Police officials from Daringbadi and Baliguda rushed to the location after receiving information. The bodies were recovered and later sent for post-mortem. Authorities have begun an investigation into the exact cause of the accident.
Local residents expressed deep sorrow over the incident, pointing out that rash driving and overcrowding on motorcycles often lead to fatal mishaps in the hilly terrains of Kandhamal. Community members have urged youths to follow road safety measures strictly, especially on routes that are accident-prone.
This accident once again highlights the growing concern over road safety in Odisha’s hill districts, where poor visibility, sharp curves, and reckless riding often turn leisure trips into tragedies.
