Landslide kills 40 people in Colombia
Bogota: At least 40 people were killed in a landslide caused by heavy rains in Colombia on Monday, while dozens more were still missing, according to local authorities.
The location of the landslide was inside Salgar municipality of Salgar in northwest Colombia, Xinhua reported.
Zulma Osorio, a local official, told local Caracol Radio that more than 40 people were dead and many families were displaced.
The exact number of casualties would be higher as several families are still missing, the official warned.
Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos said on Twitter that the government will attend to the emergency and help the victims.
“Those affected will receive all our support,” he said.
