Dhaka: A massive blaze broke out in Bangladeshi capital Dhaka's Karwan Bazar, one of the largest wholesale marketplaces in the city on Sunday night.

The fire broke out at about 8.00 p.m. in the one-storey kitchen market housing some 300 wholesale shops, a fire service official told Xinhua news agency.

It was put out about two hours later.

However, there was no reports of any casualties.

After the flames were doused, Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Annisul Huq said that there were 186 permanent shops in the market and many temporary ones.

“All of them have been gutted,” bdnews24 reported citing Huq as saying.

Fire Service and Civil Defence Director General Mohammad Ali said that it took 25 fire-fighting units and the locals to put out the fire.
