Belgrade: Ratko Mladic, who is charged with genocide for the worst carnage in Europe since World War II, says all Serbs should share the blame because they supported Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic.

"I didn`t vote for Slobodan Milosevic, you did," Serbia`s deputy war crimes prosecutor Bruno Vekaric quoted Mladic as saying in jail while he awaits extradition to a UN war crimes tribunal. "His message is: the blame is on Milosevic" and all the Serbs who supported the late Serbian leader during the bloody breakup of the former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, Vekaric said.

In an interview with The Associated Press today, Vekaric made a detailed account of what is going through the mind of the war crimes suspect.

As a member of the state team responsible for searching for war crimes fugitives, Vekaric also disclosed some of the strategy that led to Mladic`s capture.

Milosevic died in 2006 in prison during his genocide trial at the UN war crimes tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague, Netherlands.

Mladic split up with his patron Milosevic in 1994 when the Bosnian Serb army commander refused an international peace plan supported by the then Serbian leader.

Mladic was arrested Thursday after 16 years on the run. He is charged by the UN tribunal in the Hague with genocide committed by his Bosnian Serb troops during Bosnia`s 1992-95 war.
