A spokesperson for the Israeli military said on Tuesday in a statement that the strike by an unmanned aerial vehicle was launched "in response" to "a violent riot at the security fence between Israel and the Gaza Strip". 

The incident comes close on the heels of the violence that broke out at Pallel in Tengnoupal district in which three persons were killed and over 50 injured on September 8.

The police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the "unruly crowd", they said. The incident took place around 6 pm.

Manipur government's newly appointed security advisor Kuldiep Singh, a former CRPF Chief, said that at least 18 to 20 people were killed in the series of ethnic violence in different districts of the state.

The exchanges of fire were reported at Kangvai in Churachandpur district, western hill range of Phougakchao in adjoining Bishnupur district and Dolaithabi and Pukhao in Imphal East district, a senior police officer said.

According to sources, the internet services have been suspended for another 24 hours till 10 am tomorrow to prevent misuse of social media.

Speaking to the media after reviewing the situation, DGP Bansal said, “A relaxation of two hours each in the morning and evening is there. For ASO examination, we are in talks with the district administration so that aspirants do not suffer.”

Addressing the media after reviewing the situation with Sambalpur SP, Bansal said the curfew will remain in force in the district as a precautionary measure.

Launching a broadside after the party's fact-finding team returned from violence-hit Sambalpur, BJP leader Biranchi Tripathi said, “Police used to provide security during Hanuman Jayanti, but why the same was not given this year? Why no action is being taken against a particular group for breaking the law?”

While two of the miscreants were arrested for arson in Budharaja area, three others were arrested in connection with a stabbing at Maya Bagicha area that evening.
