The 56-year-old continued to flaunt his money, travelling around the world in private jets and also reportedly employing the daughter of fugitive industrialist Vijay Mallya as his personal assistant at one point in time.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that Rs 18,000 crore have been returned to the banks in the case of Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Mehul Choksi.

According to a judgment delivered on July 14, 2017, Mallya was found guilty of contempt for not paying Rs 9,000 crore worth of dues to the banks despite repeated directions.
