The forest officials finally heaved a sigh of relief after the wild animal was tranquilised at Aiginia this morning.

Locals alleged that the poachers fled with the tusks and it was the forest officials who burnt the carcasses after failing to nab the poachers.

The carcass of an elephant was found lying on a farmland in Bagpur village under Kalahandi’s Narla forest range on Saturday. The dead elephant was said to be in its twenties and its tusk were intact. Several injury marks were found on the body of the jumbo.
