Using strains identified in a collaborative study with researchers comparing "high transmission" and "low transmission" households of people with TB, the scientists studied the immune pathways that the pathogen triggered in the lungs of the infected mice.
The summit 'STEP Up to End TB 2022' was held on World TB Day 2022 to reiterate India's commitment to eliminating the high-burden infectious disease by 2025, five years ahead of the global goal of SDG 2030.
Around 10 to 12 per cent of recovered patients can catch TB again, he said, adding that this is called relapse/recurring TB and is most seen in smokers, alcoholics, and people with uncontrolled diabetes.
