"Today is a very special day - it is the 100th birth anniversary of the respected statesman Shri Bhairon Singh Shekhawat Ji. India will always be grateful to him for his exemplary leadership and efforts towards our nation's progress," Modi said on X. The prime minister also recalled the respect Shekhawat enjoyed across the political divide.
He was someone who was liked across the political spectrum and by people from all walks of life, Modi said, sharing his old pictures with him.
Shekhawat was the BJP's first chief minister in Rajasthan and is credited with building the party to prominence in the western state. He was elected the country's vice president in 2002.
Personable, friendly and politically astute, Shekhawat enjoyed respect and warmth of politicians across ideological divides and his legacy endures in Rajasthan where assembly polls are scheduled to be held on November 25.
During party General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi's meeting in Dausa district, Gehlot hinted at giving tickets to all the sitting party MLAs of the district and independent Omprakash Hoodla.
Taking the names of Women Child Development Minister Mamta Bhupesh from Sikrai, Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena from Lalsot, Murarilal Meena from Dausa, G.R. Khatana from Bandikui, and independent MLA Hoodla from Mahuva, he appealed to the people to help them win again.
It seems clear from this appeal of the CM that Congress will give tickets to the five sitting MLAs.
Dausa district has five MLAs, including four from Congress, three of whom are ministers. Murarilal Meena from Dausa and Khatana from Bandikui are supporters of Sachin Pilot.
Before the announcement of Congress tickets, political discussions have started regarding the way Gehlot has appealed to make the sitting MLAs of Dausa victorious. It is being deemed that he has tried to send a message in the presence of Priyanka Gandhi by indicating that the tickets of the sitting MLAs will be finalised.
This is not the first time that Gehlot has declared candidates before the official announcement.
Before the 2018 Assembly elections, Gehlot had declared Babulal Nagar as a candidate during a programme in Dudu and appealed to make him win. Later Congress had canceled Nagar's ticket. After being denied the ticket, he rebelled and contested the elections as an independent and won the polls. In the last assembly elections, 11 rebels supporting Gehlot had won the elections even after failing to secure the party nominations.
People from all over Western Rajasthan will assemble in Jodhpur for PM Modi's public meeting, said Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
While talking to the media, Shekhawat said that Prime Minister Modi is expected to attend two programmes in Jodhpur.
In the first programme, he will lay the foundation stone and inaugurate development works worth Rs 10,000 crore. He will give the gift of doubling railway lines.
PM Modi will come to the venue in the form of a rally, where he will be greeted by ‘Matra Shakti’. Later, he will address the gathering.
He will lay the foundation stones for the state-of-the-art Trauma Centre at Jodhpur AIIMS at a cost of about Rs 500 crore and the expansion work of Jodhpur Airport.
The Prime Minister is also scheduled to inaugurate the educational works and green campus developed at a cost of more than Rs 1100 crore in IIT Jodhpur.
BJP state president C.P. Joshi, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje, current and former MPs, public representatives, state and national level party officials will be among those to be present in the meeting.
This happens to be the Prime Minister's first meeting in Jodhpur after the successful organisation of G20 and the inauguration of the new Parliament, Minister Shekhawat said, adding that there is immense enthusiasm among women due to the passing of the Women's Reservation Bill in Parliament.
Though people from only 20 Assembly constituencies within a radius of 100 kilometers have been invited for the event, the enthusiasm to hear, see and greet their beloved Prime Minister is palpable throughout the Western Rajasthan. Therefore, a large number of people are expected from far and wide, he added.

The police believe that the student had consumed poison while returning from the coaching centre.
Priyam's family members have been informed. Her room will be searched after their arrival.
The incident took place at Nichalkota village of the district.
Both the victim and the accused belong to a tribal community, officials said on Friday, adding that the victim's former father-in-law and his family members are the accused in the case.
"As soon as the information was received, the Superintendent of Police (SP) along with the Deputy SP and other police officer immediately reached the spot," they said.
SP Amit Kumar said that FIR has been registered and six teams have been formed to detain the accused.
Taking cognizance of the incident, the state government instructed Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra, ADG Crime Dinesh M.N. to visit Pratapgarh and take swift action in the case.
The DGP has asked the police to immediately arrest the accused.
Reacting over the incident, Deputy Leader of Opposition Satish Poonia said: "Soul trembles after watching the video of misbehaviour with a tribal woman in Pratapgarh. The morale of the criminals is so high that they are openly making videos of the crime."
Poonia urged the state government to punish the culprits "so harshly that even the thought of committing such crimes trigger fear in the minds of the criminals".
However, Constable Mahesh Kumar Gurjar was let go by police personnel from the local police station after they took him for a medical examination, they said.
Gurjar, who is on the run, and the station house officer (SHO) of Baswa police station were suspended on Thursday after the woman, who is married, lodged a complaint in the matter, according to the officials.
"Constable Mahesh Kumar Gurjar went to the house of the 30-year-old woman when she was alone on Tuesday night and allegedly raped her. When she raised an alarm, the woman's neighbours caught him. Meanwhile, her family members also came back and thrashed him," Circle Officer (CO) Bandikui Ishwar Singh said.
The constable was tied to a cot, he said.
After receiving information about the incident, a team from Baswa police station reached the spot and took Gurjar for a medical examination. Later, they let him go, Singh said.
The matter came to light on Thursday after the woman lodged a police complaint. Later, the station house officer (SHO) of Baswa police station was suspended for not informing senior officials about the incident on Tuesday itself. Gurjar, who was posted at a different police station, was also suspended, the CO said.
"The accused constable is on the run and efforts are being made to nab him," Singh said.
The boy was so severely bitten by the dogs that the doctors found difficult to find a place on his body to put a drip. The victim has been identified as Mangilal.
The incident took place on Sunday when three dogs attacked Mangilal. Hearing the boy's scream, his uncle rushed to the spot and rescued him from the clutches of the dogs, but by then the profusely bleeding Mangilal was bitten severely.
He rushed the boy to the district hospital, where the doctors could not find a spot to open a channel to apply drip, as most of his veins were torn by the dogs.
A nursing staff of the hospital said that there were around 60 wounds on the child' body, while half of his head was missing. The child was then referred to Kota, but he succumbed to his injuries even before he could be shifted there.
“We send money for schemes from Delhi but the Congress loots it. The Congress government has damaged Rajasthan in four years and Congress leaders also know this well,” Modi said, while addressing a public rally in Bikaner’s Naurangdesar village.
“Congress only means shop of loot and market of lies,” Modi said.
He said that the farmer of Rajasthan has become the biggest victim of Congress’s politics of lies. In the last elections, Congress promised to waive off the loans of the farmers. Their leader had vowed to waive the loan in 10 days. Was the loan waived in 10 days, 10 months or else today even in 4 years, he questioned.
Addressing a rally, Modi said that the enthusiasm of the crowd present shows that the public is against the Congress in Rajasthan.
“I have come to know that some ministers and legislators have already started shifting to their own houses by vacating their government bungalows. Only Congress leaders can be so confident of their defeat,” Modi said.
He said that Rajasthan needs development, not complaints. “The whole industry of paper leak has opened here. That is, the future of the youth is being openly played,” he said.
He said that Congress when in power loots the country and when they are out of power they defame the country abroad.
He said that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is only engaged in saving the future of his son. “CM is engaged in securing the future of his son and he does not care about sons and daughters of the state. Many ministers are angry with him for this,’ Modi said.
He said that Congress’s loot in Rajasthan has not even spared the educational institutions. “The teachers here are coming in front of the CM and saying that money is openly demanded for transfer, but no one’s hearing is held,” Modi said.
He said that Rajasthan is at the forefront for crimes against women. “Here the protectors have become predators. Rajasthan is number one in rape and the entire government is engaged in saving the rapists,” he said.
Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of development projects worth Rs 24,300 crore at the meeting place in Bikaner’s Naurangdesar village.
Modi dedicated to people a six-lane greenfield expressway section of the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor, the first phase of the Inter-State Transmission Line for Green Energy Corridor, a Bikaner-to-Bhiwadi transmission line and a 30-bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospital.
He also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of the Bikaner railway station and the doubling of the 43-km-long Churu-Ratangarh section.
The prime minister pressed a remote button to inaugurate the projects at a programme in Norangdesar, Bikaner.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of State for Law and Parliament Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal, who is also the member of Parliament from Bikaner, were also present on the occasion.
"After the operation, the patient's health continued to deteriorate and he died after 12 days. When the family reached the crematorium to collect the bones post cremation, they found surgical scissors," said family members.
However, when the family contacted the hospital, they denied all allegations and said they were lying.
The family of the deceased has now lodged a complaint against the hospital at the Jawahar Circle police station.
Kamal, the son of Upendra Sharma (74), a resident of the city's Mansarovar area, has alleged in the complaint that on May 29, his father was taken to Fortis Hospital due to ill health.
On May 30 at around 8.30 p.m., his father was taken for the operation. He was brought out of the operation theatre at around 1.30 a.m. in the night.
He was discharged by the evening of May 31.
The son alleged that the father's health started deteriorating two days after he was brought home. After talking to the doctors, they said that everything will be fine, but it will take some time.
Meanwhile, on June 12, his health started deteriorating and he died at 8.30 p.m.
The next day, the last rites were performed at the cremation ground at Maharani Farm. On the morning of June 15, when Kamal went to the crematorium to collect the remains, a pair of surgical scissors were found.
Kamal says that these surgical scissors were found near the heart in the same direction in which the father was laid.
Neerav Bansal, Zonal Director, Fortis Hospital, Jaipur, said that the family's claim is false, baseless and malicious.
"We have all the post surgery reports and X-rays of the patient which confirm that there were no surgical scissors or any other foreign object inside the patient's body.A Fortis follows stringent protocols to ensure that such errors do not occur."
Meanwhile under the instructions of state Health Minister Parsadi Lal Meena, a three-member committee has been former to investigate the matter.
The committee will submit its report in three days.
Apart from Director Public Health Ravi Prakash Mathur, Additional Director Hospital Administration Sushil Kumar Parmar and Chief Medical and Health Officer Jaipur II BL Meena have been included in the committee.
"They have not recognised Modi.... if Modi is there...we can cross any limit to save the people of India," he added.
Attacking the Congress, Prime Minister Modi said, "When we were evacuating people quietly from Sudan, the Congress created an uproar. It wanted one of them to get shot, so that they could hold Modi's throat."
"Congress exposed the face of people trapped in Sudan for vote-bank politics, had put their lives in danger, because Congress wanted that if even one person gets shot in Sudan, they will get a chance to play the game in Karnataka elections," the PM alleged.
To harm Modi, Congress does not desist from harming the country, he added.
Attacking the Congress leaders of Rajasthan, he said, "In the last 5 years, a dirty form of politics has been seen in Rajasthan. The game of looting the chair and saving the chair is going on here. What kind of government is this that the Chief Minister does not trust his MLAs, what kind of government is this that the MLAs do not trust the CM. Everyone is competing to humiliate each other. In such a situation, who would care about the development of Rajasthan."
"Law and order has been destroyed in Rajasthan under the Congress rule. In Rajasthan, where crimes used to be rare to hear, criminals are now roaming around fearlessly. The Congress running under the slavery of vote bank is not taking action on the people. Mothers, sisters and daughters have had to pay the biggest price for this. They also have to celebrate Teej-festival amidst doubts and apprehensions," he added.
"When the Corona epidemic hit the country, Congress did spread rumours, Congress wanted more and more people to die. Modi has neither bowed down nor will he bow down to the threats and conspiracies of these people. If Modi bows down, he bows down in front of 140 crore countrymen," said the PM.
Speaking on serial blasts in Jaipur in which the accused were acquitted by Rajasthan High Court, he said, "Two days later, on May 13, is the anniversary of the Jaipur bomb blasts. The Congress government of Rajasthan did what it has been infamous for, its history-exploits have been infamous. Has always taken a soft stand on terrorists. Congress does not leave any chance to stand with terrorist ideology. Weak lobbying in the case of bomb blasts, the accused were acquitted, Congress may try to cover up, but the truth has come to the fore."
The Prime Minister said that Dalit-backward and tribal society has suffered the most due to the kind of politics that the Congress has done for decades. The tribal society has trusted the Congress for decades. There was no development in Sirohi, Jaisalmer, Karauli, Baran due to the misrule of the Congress.
The Congress had shied away from them, but BJP declared them as aspirational districts. Today, these aspirational districts will benefit the most from the foundation stone laying of the Rs 5,000 crore project.
About 8 months ago, Modi had come to Abu Road, but he could not give a speech after 10 p.m as he was not allowed to speak on the mike beacuse of some law and order issue. Then he had promised that he would definitely come here.
"How could I have forgotten the promise made to you? When I came during Navratri, I could not talk to you. There were limits of the law and it is my nature and culture to remain disciplined. Had the good fortune to see you that day. You came to bless me even though it was very late in the night. I was feeling that I am leaving after making you angry, don't know how much anger will come out," he said.
Earlier in the morning, the PM reached Nathdwara and had darshan of Shrinathji. After visiting the temple, he laid the foundation stone of a project worth more than Rs 5000 crore and also addressed the public meeting.
Both the accused are part of a major criminal gang involved in targeting people after sending friend requests on Facebook, said Cuttack DCP, Pinak Mishra.
According to Mishra, both the accused have been brought on a transit remand and further investigation is underway.
“The accused were arrested after a detailed investigation that continued for nearly 12 days. The gang reportedly had made nude calls and extorted Rs 8.5 lakh from a senior citizen on March 22. The gang had threatened the victim to make the morphed pictures viral on social media," said Mishra.
The Cuttack DCP further informed that usually in such cases, most of the victims do not report to the police fearing public shaming and other issues. As the gang uses fake SIMs, it is very difficult to ascertain the identity, the DCP said.
“We have been able to recover Rs 1 lakh, and as the gang usually diverts the money to various other accounts through multiple transactions. We have also seized 16 mobile phones used in the crime, 20 SIM cards of various service providers, and other documents,” Mishra added.

According to her friends, Rashi was stressed as she was not keeping well.
The incident took place on Tuesday around 3 p.m.
Her post-mortem was conducted at MBS Hospital on Wednesday. The police have informed the relatives, said officials.
Rashi used to live in a UK hostel in the Talwandi area. She had stopped attending her coaching classes but was to appear in the NEET UG exam on May 7.

While launching the train between Ajmer and Delhi Cantonment through video conferencing, the Prime Minister lamented that "an important and basic need of the citizens like railways was turned into an arena of politics for a long time".
PM Modi said, "India inherited a fairly big railway network at the time of Independence, but political interest dominated the need for modernisation in the years after independence".
"Politics was evident in the selection of railway minister, announcement of trains and even in recruitments. Land acquisition was done under the false pretense of railway jobs and many unmanned crossings continued for a very long time and cleanliness and safety took a back seat," he said while alluding to the land for job scam, in which former railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members are being probed.
"The situation took a turn for the better after 2014 when people elected a stable government with full majority, when the pressure of political give and take receded, railway heaved a sigh of relief and sprinted to new heights," Modi said.
This is the sixth Vande Bharat train in the last two months to have been flagged off by the Prime Minister.
Incidentally, all the three trains --Ajmer-Delhi Cantonment Vande Bharat express, Rani Kamlapati-Hazrat Nizammuddin Vande Bharat express and Secunderabad-Tirupati Vande Bharat express -- cater to the needs of three poll-bound states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana respectively.
All the three states are scheduled to witness Assembly elections later this year.
Meanwhile, Modi remarked that the railway budget for Rajasthan has been increased 14 times since 2014, from Rs 700 crore in 2014 to more than Rs 9,500 crore this year.
Addressing the gathering, Modi congratulated the land of valour Rajasthan for getting its first Vande Bharat Train, which he said, will not only ease the travel between Jaipur Delhi but will also give a push to the tourism industry of Rajasthan, as it will facilitate faster access to places of faith like Theerthraj Pushkar and Ajmer Sharif.
As per reports, Bilash Bhuyan from Kuanasala was working in a private motor showroom in Mumbai for a long time. However, Bilash passed away suddenly after a brief illness a couple of weeks back. His body was sent to his family members through a courier service. Subsequently, the family members cremated the body on Monday evening.
However, to the utter dismay of the family members, Nemala police informed them that the body they cremated was not of Bilash. Rather it was the body of someone from Rajasthan. The strange happening triggered resentment among the family members, relatives and several people in the area.
“The body which was sent to Bilash’s family was distorted to some extent. It resembled Bilash to a little extent. It was pretty difficult to identify it properly. All the family members and relatives were mistaken. Out of sorrow and grief, they cremated the body as per the rituals. However, they were shocked to get the right information from the police later,” said Sarat Kumar Mallik, a villager.
As per reports, the matter came to the limelight when the family in Rajasthan received the other body through the courier service. They found to their astonishment that the person’s body they have received was not the member of their family. Subsequently, they lodged an FIR at a police station in Mumbai. Following a preliminary inquiry, it was revealed that the bodies got interchanged by the courier company with different addresses.
The family from Rajasthan is on their way to collect the mortal remains of their relative. They are also reportedly bringing Bilash’s body with them.
“The family from Rajasthan will reach Kuanasala village soon to take away the mortal remains of their relative. They are bringing the body of Bilash with them,” said Salipur SDPO Bimal Kumar Barik.

Initially, the police team was confused as Meena was found shoddily dressed and was sporting a long beard as he worked at the under-construction building of a government school, but identified and arrested him on Thursday.
Anil Meena alias Sher Singh Meena, a resident of Dola's Bas in Jaipur's Chaumun, was working as Vice Principal in a government school in a village in Sirohi district, when he allegedly leaked the senior teacher recruitment exam paper, selling it to Bhupendra Saran for Rs 1 crore.
Saran and Suresh Dhaka sold the paper to other candidates for Rs 8-10 lakh. When the state police's SOG caught Saran from Bengaluru, Meena apprehended that he would be next on the police list and went absconding. The SOG and Udaipur police were continuously searching for him.
However, they received clues about Meena's whereabouts from his girlfriend as he was in constant touch with her.
Udaipur police had arrested Meena's girlfriend Anita Meena from Jaipur on April 2, and it was from her the information that Meena was hiding in Odisha was obtained.
Officials said that Meena changed 7 cities to evade arrest. After fleeing his village after he came to know of Saran's arrest, he came to Jaipur and from there, went to Delhi and finally to Odisha through Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
The SOG team reached Odisha three days ago and came to know that Meena was living somewhere near Bhawanipatnam in Kalahandi. It was then found that he was working at the construction site of a government school in a village 40 kms away from Bhawanipatnam.
Meena was living in a kutcha house in the guise of a Rajasthani labourer.

In his resignation letter, Meghwal mentioned that he is hurt by the death of the Dalit student. The child in Jalore died after being severely beaten up by his teacher for the only reason that he touched a water pot of his teacher.
Meghwal said, "I have demanded a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh for the victim's family and a government job to a member of his family."
He said that even after 24 hours, there was no response from the other side and hence he sent his resignation.
Panachand Meghwal is a second time MLA. He has won elections from Baran-Atru on Congress ticket both the times.
Meghwal, in his resignation, said that the country is completing 75 years of independence and is celebrating the Amrit Mahotsav, but even after so many years, the continuous atrocities on the downtrodden and deprived sections in the state has hurt him deeply. "The pain of the kind of torture my society is facing today cannot be expressed in words."
"It seems that there is no one to protect the equality right which Babasaheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar had provided for the Dalits and the downtrodden in the Constitution. In most cases of atrocities on Dalits, FR (Final Report) is imposed. I raised such matters many times in the assembly, despite that the police administration did not take any action," he added.
"When we fail to protect the rights of our society, then we have no right to be in office. On the voice of my conscience, I resign from the post of MLA. Accept my resignation from the post of MLA so that I can serve the deprived and exploited section of the society without any post," Meghwal asserted.
