The device fell on the main road near Naikpada.
As per reports, the unknown device had a red light and ‘Made-In-Korea’ inscribed on it. It was tied to a balloon.

Primary investigation revealed it to be a weather forecasting apparatus.
Notably, the locals are still in panic as the device looked suspicious and had made-in-Korea written on it.
However, an investigation into the incident is going on and the police are likely to come up with an appropriate explanation.

My uncles, brothers, and sisters keep asking me to pay them a visit. Whenever I visit Western Odisha, I meet them. Among the local leaders, Chhattisgarh’s Raipur MLA Purandarji is also here. He is representing the Odia Samaj there. Coming here gave me immense pleasure. Since Western Odisha is the place of my grandfather and uncle, I have a soft corner for it. People shower their love and affection not only in Bargarh and Sambalpur but also in Nuapada and other places of Western Odisha. I feel good whenever I come here,” said Baijayant Panda.
All the injured were initially admitted to Khariar Hospital. Later, two of them were shifted to Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital as their condition deteriorated.

Some of the farmers, who have stocked their paddy packets outside the procurement centre of Gandamer Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) in Komna block, brought the allegations on Monday.
As per reports, scores of farmers brought their paddy to the PACS two days ago after getting tokens for procurement. However, the PACS authorities allegedly did not make any arrangements for shade for the paddy, forcing the farmers to stock their crops in the open. Neither the provision of CCTVs nor the deployment of guards has been made, farmers lamented.
Taking advantage of such lapses, some miscreants have allegedly taken away 10 sacks of paddy.
Farmer Debdas Nial alleged, "My token was meant for selling the paddy on December 2. So, we had stocked 26 sacks of paddy at the yard of the procurement centre on December 1. In the evening, I checked my paddy stock. All were intact. Next day we saw one of the packets is missing.”
Upset over the theft of the crop, farmer leader Jadumani Panigrahi said, "About 10 packets of paddy of our farmers have been stolen from the procurement centre. Who will be responsible for that? The procurement centre has no proper road, and no protective measures for the paddy. The Collector had earlier assured of CCTV provision, but nothing of that sort was done.”
Speaking on the issue, Bhaktacharan Bisi, an employee of the local regulated market committee, said, "Some farmers have complained about theft of their paddy packets. A night watchman is coming regularly and doing his duty properly. He is not sure if the paddy packets have been stolen or not.”
Meanwhile, a team of experts comprising Debrigarth DFO and experts from Sambalpur Zoo reached the Nuapada forest office to study the behaviour of the leopard which is being treated inside a cage. This was stated by Nuapada ACF Mohammed Saleha.
Wildlife expert Dr Anup Nayak said, “The characteristics of leopards are that they usually stay close to human habitations. They are not man-eaters. They don’t reside deep in forests like the Royal Bengal Tigers. If there is a change in the pattern of their food and killing habits, it may kill humans. The attack on humans by leopards is very rare.”
On the other hand, after the leopard was caged by the forest department, another one, believed to be a female, was allegedly sighted moving in the same area a day ago. Local residents who have been living in panic on Monday claimed that they had heard the big cat roaring in the nearby areas.
They have alleged that a female leopard on the prowl has been roaring occasionally, perhaps without getting the company of the male partner.
However, the forest department has not yet confirmed the presence of another leopard, but has started holding meetings and making people aware of safety measures against the marauding animal in the villages. Forest officials appealed to people to inform them about the big cat if ever sighted.
Tulsa Sahu, a woman of the village said, “Some people have sighted another leopard which is now roaring in the nearby areas. People are living indoors for fear of the animal.”
Another woman Lileswari Sahu claimed, “Villagers have seen another moving and roaring in the area. After the male leopard was caught, the female leopard is moving. We are now so scared of the animal that my child was not allowed to go to school. We are not venturing out of the houses. As the sun sets, we shut our doors.”
However, PCCF (Wildlife) Susanta Nanda said that the presence of another leopard can’t be ruled out. “People might have seen it and told about the animal. Trap cameras have been installed in the area while a special team of the department has kept a close watch on the leopard. In the last three days, no leopard was sighted by forest official,” the PCCF added.
A day after the forest department caught a leopard which triggered panic by remaining atop a house at Kodapali under Dharam Bandha section on Saturday night, another leopard was sighted moving in the same area on Sunday.
As per reports, local residents of Kodapali in Dharam Bandha panchayat have been spending sleepless nights since a big cat reportedly killed a minor boy and a woman, apart from making an attempt to kill a minor boy in Dharam Bandha area under the Sadar range in the district. The sighting of another leopard has added to their worries. The forest department has been apprised of the big cat.

All people came together at night and surrounded the house for several hours. Later the forest department was informed about the big cat.”
With the help of local people, forest staff managed to drive out the animal from the housetop into a room before catching it in a cage, he added. The forest department officials shifted the caged animal to Sadar range office at around 1 am Saturday.
A woman of the village said, “We all were in horror after spotting the animal on the housetop. All our family members were led out of the house safely and the leopard was caged hours later by the forest department.”
Amid the ongoing 'leopard horror' in Dharam Bandha panchayat, a woman of Kodapali village demanded that the forest department should set up a boundary wall or wired fencing around the village to ward off the marauding leopards. There is a need for lighting in the village. If the leopards continue to trigger panic, people will not move out for farming or daily work, she noted. She also demanded medical assistance for the child injured by the leopard.
Khariar DFO Sushil Kumar Tripathy said that the captured leopard is safe and the deputy director of the veterinary has checked its health. The food chart for the leopard has been prepared and it will be served accordingly, he added.
Sunabeda DFO Mhadev Budek, said that as the village is in the core and buffer zones, leopards keep coming to the village. And patrolling has been intensified, he added.
The marauding animal that has reportedly killed a minor boy and a woman was caged at Kodapali of Dharma Bandha area under the Sadar range in the district.
The killer big cat was spotted atop a building on Saturday night. The sighting of the wild animal had sent chills down the spine of local people, who lost their sleep in panic.
Following the development, a five-member team of forest department officials tried to trap the animal by setting up a cage. They were successful in their endeavour after five long hours of operation.
The leopard was caged at around 11pm on Saturday night. However, the local people lost their cool and allegedly attacked the wild animal with sticks after it was caged. The forest department officials tried their best to pacify the people and shift the injured wild animal to Sadar range office at around 1 pm.
As per Khariar Division DFO, the health of the leopard has deteriorated and it will soon be treated by a veterinary team.
Following its treatment, the big cat will be shifted either to Nandankanan Zoo or any other forest as per the order of the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), official sources said.
The sighting of the killer big cat has sent chills down the spine of local people, who have lost their sleep in panic.
Meanwhile, the forest department has started a drive to tranquilise the marauding animal that has reportedly killed a minor boy and a woman. It has also mauled another person. However, the Forest department has not yet recovered the body of the woman.

What is worrying for the local residents is that the animal was allegedly trying to pounce upon a minor boy today as well. But the boy miraculously managed to escape from its clutches.
Villagers believe that it is the same big cat that killed two people. Meanwhile, the Forest Department officials have started all possible efforts to capture it.
However, no comments have been received from the Forest Department officials.
The big cat has also allegedly killed a cow of Arjun Fharua, a resident of the village. Following such incidents, the villagers reportedly are living in jitters. The residents fear to venture out to their farmlands. They are keeping guard on their children in the village.
Addressing a presser, Sunabeda DFO Mahadeo Budak expressed his grief over the death of the child and sympathized with the bereaved family.
The DFO said, “We have got information about a leopard on the prowl in the area. We are keeping a close watch on its movement through trap cameras which have been installed at various places under the forest division for the purpose of tiger census.”
He further stated that the department will make people aware of the dangers from the big cat. As for demands of the local residents, Budak added that the department will also try to fulfil the demands of the local residents such as fencing and lighting in the area.
“The ex-gratia amount for a ‘human kill’ is Rs 6 lakh. Initially, we have provided Rs 50,000 to the bereaved family for post-death rituals. The remaining amount of the ex-gratia will be paid in the next two or three days following the official process,” the DFO said.

The villagers spotted the carcass of a calf near the village this morning. On being informed, a team from the forest department reached the spot and tried to assuage the panic-stricken people.
The fear of tiger has been gripping the people of the villages near the sanctuary for a week now. But the forest department officials are allegedly not taking any measures to do away with the tiger fear.
The officials are reportedly creating awareness among the people. They asked the villagers to keep their cattle in the sheds and not to let them go into the forested areas. So far, three cows and five calves have fallen prey to the predator.
Notably, this is Mahua flower collection season. For the people living near or inside forested areas, it is a common practice to go into the forest in the morning to collect the flowers. For the last one week, they haven’t been able to go into the forest because of the tiger fear.
Worth mentioning, on March 19 evening, the big cat strayed into the house of the elderly woman, identified as Sanamati Barik of Jalamadei village and dragged her into the forest. On hearing the screams of the villagers, the tiger went into the forest leaving behind the body of Barik.
The forest department officials then confirmed that the woman was killed by a Royal Bengal Tiger.

The deceased has been identified as Sanamati Barik.
According to sources, the big cat strayed into Barik’s house from the backyard and dragged her.
However, the wild animal ran away into the forest leaving the body of Barik behind after hearing the screams of the local residents, sources informed.
On being informed about the incident, the forest department officials rushed to the spot and confirmed the death due to a tiger attack after examining the paw marks and circumstantial evidence.
“A Royal Bengal tiger attacked an elderly woman leading to her death at Jalamadei village. When the villagers chased the tiger, it left the body behind. However, the big cat ate some portion of the woman's body,” said Siba Prasad Khamari, ranger of Sunabeda sanctuary.
“If it was a leopard, it would not have eaten its prey immediately. As it was a Royal Bengal Tiger, it ate some parts of the body immediately after killing the woman. Moreover, the paw marks also confirm Royal Bengal tiger is the predator. We have cautioned the villagers to remain alert,” Khamari added.
However, the PCCF (Wildlife), Sushil Kumar Popli denied the reports of Royal Bengal Tiger attacking the woman. Clarifying on the issue, Popli said that the victim was killed by a leopard and not a Royal Bengal Tiger.

When one will venture towards this verdant wilderness and from among the trees would emerge a fierce and old tribal woman armed with an axe on her shoulder. Well, meet 65-years-old Padmini Majhi from Birsinghpur village who has been protecting around 100 hectares of forest from the timber mafias for the last 30 years.
Padmini is famous in the area as the protector of the forest. Local people lovingly call her Jungle Rani or Forest Queen. The illiterate tribal woman has been keeping a sharp vigil over the 100 hectares of forest land for over three decades now.
Though Padmini is illiterate, she has learnt the utility of jungle from her childhood. From her parents and neighbours, she learnt very quickly that without forest, human beings and other species could not survive. To keep a balance in weather condition, control green house effect and for good rain, conservation of forest is most essential. With this understanding, she dedicated her life for the protection of the forest. Armed with an axe on shoulder, she started guarding the forest from the mafias and local people.
“Earlier jungle mafias were very active in the region. They used to cut down many old and valuable trees from the jungle. However, Padmini has been guarding the jungle and protecting trees for the last three years. She used to walk in the 100 hectares forest throughout the day with an axe. Under her strict vigil, no one dares to cut trees. The jungle has become thick and rich under her strict vigil,” said Ganesh Majhi, a villager.
“All the people of the area owe Padmini a lot. It’s because of her love towards forest and dedication to the protection of trees, jungle in the area has become so dense and beautiful,” said Jackson Majhi, another villager.
Despite all her hard work and dedication to protect the forest, Padmini has not got any support and recognition. She has not yet got any support from any government and private sectors. It is sheer love towards the trees and nature which is propelling her in the mission to protect the forest.
“I am committed to protect the beautiful forest for the greater benefit of mankind. I have been protecting the local forest since last 30 years and continue to do it till my last breath,” said Padmini.
Local people and forest officials are effusive in their praise for Padmini for her selfless service.
“People should learn from Padmini how to protect forest. She is creating massive awareness among people about the utility of jungle. She is an example for the society,” said Komna Forest Ranger Debdutta Sutar.

And their hard work and dedication have finally paid off as they are reaping a good harvest and earning money.
Till a year ago, not a blade of grass was seen on the fields of this hilly area. The Chakotia Bhunjia tribals were incurring huge losses from traditional farming. Then the Chakotia Bhunjia Development Agency (CBDA) came to their rescue.
Following the direction of the district Collector, the CBDA arranged training for the tribals on how to cultivate strawberries. Till then they didn’t know what strawberry was nor were they aware of the fact that the soil of their lands is good for strawberry plantations.
The CBDA and district horticulture department took the tribals on an exposition to Mahabaleshwar and provided seeds and training.
Now, these red fruits are dotting the vast stretch of land, bringing a smile to the farmers. They are happy because the days of hardship have become a thing of the past. From this strawberry cultivation, they are earning lakhs of rupees.
“We had never seen strawberries before. Now we are seeing these fruits for the first time in our lives. It tastes good. As the cultivation is earning us a good income we will expand the cultivation in the coming year,” said a visibly happy young woman farmer Ganga Bai.
Echoing the same, another strawberry farmer Bishram Chhatriya said he has planted strawberries on two acres of land and hopes to earn around Rs 7 to 8 lakh.
While the villagers started cultivation in October, 2022, the plants are now laden with red juicy fruits. The good thing is that, the business has also started picking up. While there is a demand for this fruit in the local market, they are also being sent to Raipur and Bhubaneswar.
For the coming year, a target has been set to cultivate strawberries on 50 acres.
“I have also taken up strawberry cultivation. Most of my land was lying unutilized. Now I hope the cultivation would earn me a good income,” said Kaliram Chhatriya, a strawberry farmer.
Nowadays, the strawberry cultivation of Sunabeda hilly area has earned a new identity.
“On a pilot project basis, we have taken this initiative of strawberry cultivation on 10 acres by the primitive groups. The result is overwhelming. In the coming year, it will be expanded to more areas,” said Nuapada district Collector Hema Kant Say.

These swing districts hold a seat tally totalling 226. The rest of the around 627 seats, which includes largely the districts in coastal and southern Odisha, have always exhibited a herd voting trait in elections after elections.
Historical data shows ruling party wins in a majority (around 90 percent) of the 627 seats. Only in extreme political conditions/upheavals/movements, do these seats go for a change.

The district has over 10.84 lakh voters. The new voters in the district in this election have been at over 36.8 k. Last year the voter turnout in the district had been around 69 percent.
Biggest Poll Issue In Sundargarh
Rich in mines and forests, the rural households in the district get a distressed lot during the summer months. Because data with the Odisha government shows that a massive over 94 percent of households in the villages depend on tube well/hand pumps for 365 days.
In the Summer months (March-May), the rural areas turn into parched land as the majority of tube wells go dry in the district.
Significantly, even the Odisha government knows that the drinking water crisis is acute in the district, and voters will vote on water issues.
For which, the Odisha Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department on July 17, 2021 (only last year) had given nod to Rs 1,175 cr worth drinking water projects in the district.
Besides, the issue of remunerative prices for minor forest produces and the consequent tribal per capita income is also a major issue, given that nearly 86 percent of the villages in the district are tribal villages.
The Poll-Matic
With an aim to foster the poll arithmetic, the ruling BJD had gone for inclusion of former Congress MLA from Talsara, Prafulla Majhi, only in December 2021. The BJD playing real politick preys on Congress vote bank to give a checkmate to strong BJP.
However, given the governance deficiency, and that has been topped up Modi government's 'Har Ghar Nal' Scheme (Piped water supply to every household, the BJP seems in an advantageous position in all the blocks of the district. Pockets of Congress influence is seen in blocks like Subdega, Kutra zones. The Congress vote bank is seen in good measure some blocks in Talsara and Rajgangpur.
CPI(M) influence measured in some blocks in Bonaigarh tehsil.
As per the ground scenario, BJP seems to be in a strong position in 15 ZP constituencies. The winning tally of Congress will witness a sharp fall, as many strong leaders of the party have already been landed in the BJD camp.
Nuapada
The saffron party has a good presence in the district. For which, BJP had been allocated this seat when both BJD-BJP fought the elections in 2000 and 2004 elections.
But with the rise of Congress fortunes in 2004, BJP could retain only one Assembly seat in the district.
Since 2017, the district has turned anti-saffron. The party could win a single ZP of a total of 14 in the last Panchayat elections. Even, in State Assembly Elections 2019, Congress and BJD pushed BJP to third position.
As the district has a high concentration of agricultural labourers, agricultural wages play a major role in deciding winners in the district.
The huge rush for MGNREGA in the district will play a crucial role in deciding the winner this time.
Congress influence is big here as the district is adjacent to Chhattisgarh. In 2017, Congress had won 5 seats, and BJD won 9 seats.
As Chhattisgarh is ruled by the Congress government, and the paddy procurement in the neighbouring State has been very successful, this will play a big role in the elections.
Though the question papers were reportedly found to be viral on WhatsApp and other social media, School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra rubbished the reports stating that mobile phones were completely prohibited at the exam centres.
"As per the system, question paper is being transported to nodal centres and kept there in police custody. Moreover, it was dispatched to exam centres at 8 am under tight police security. There is no way question paper could leak as the packets were opened in presence of officials," Patra said.
"It is being verified whether the leaked question paper is of this year or previous years. Allegations of question paper leak in Kandhamal and other places are also not true," added Patra.
Meanwhile, Congress media cell head Satya Prakash Nayak said, "It is very unfortunate. Leak of question papers of Matric and Plus II examinations has become an annual affair now. They are playing with the future of students. The government is only claiming in media that they have taken steps for foolproof security. We want a probe into the matter and immediate action should be taken against higher officials of the department."
Board of Secondary Education (BSE) president Jahan Ara Begum confirmed the leak of Odia question paper. She said, "The question paper was leaked after the commencement of the exam and the board will conduct an inquiry into the matter."
Later in the day, the Board suspended four centre superintendents and four other invigilators after a probe into the incident.
BSE President Jahan Ara Begum informed that suspended officials are from two examination centres in Nuapada district (Karangmal and Gopinath High Schools in Boden block) and one each from Koraput (Bandhugaon High School) and Dhenkanal (Sudarsan Vidyabhawan).
"Students involved in connection with the incident will be identified and they will be barred from appearing in the ongoing examination. Apart from that, police complaint will be lodged over the incident," said the Board president.
This year, as many as 5.87 lakh students are appearing for the Annual HSC Examination 2019 conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) in the State.
On the other hand, over 3,500 students in Odisha also appeared for the Class 10 exams conducted by the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE). The examinations which began today will continue till March 25.

“People are talking of ‘Heijau’ when it comes to Parivartan or a change. There is a spurt in hooliganism and corruption in the State and the scenario should change. It’s we who can change it,” he said.
“We are dreaming of a change where Odia youths will get employment here in Odisha. If this happens, they will not think of going outside the State like migrant labourers. Farmers’ issues are also not being handled properly and their voices are being suppressed; there should be a change in that as well,” Panda added.

The former MP further expressed that hooliganism and violence against women should stop and only a good governance can make it possible.

Meanwhile, in response to Panda’s programme, Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro said, “A political leader’s job is to meet and interact with people. The mishap occurred at around 2 am when the pilgrims of Pithora area of Chhattisgarh were returning from Komna in Nuapada after offering prayers at the Vaishnodebi temple.
As per reports, the intensity of the collision was so severe that all ten persons died on the spot.
After getting the information police and Fire Services personnel reached the spot and pulled out the bodies from the damaged vehicle. Later the bodies were sent to the Nuapada district headquarters hospital for post mortem, reports added.
The move came after the government officials failed to expedite the work on the Sahakata small irrigation project.
Without waiting for help from district administration, the villagers mostly farmers came forward and constructed a 200 metre long canal.
Due to such combined effort, the villagers could bring water to their farm land which had almost dried up and developed cracks due to water scarcity.
“All the farmers of Balipati village joined hands to dig the canal as our crops were getting affected due to water scarcity. We are hopeful of a good yield now as the canal has been connected to our farmland,” said a farmer.
Because of the administration’s apathy towards the demand for the irrigation project, as many as 50 farmers decided to work together for the canal, stated another farmer.
Meanwhile, the administration has lauded the efforts made by farmers and assured to construct a concrete canal soon.
“I congratulate the farmers for digging the canal. If they support us, the administration will make it concrete, said Prabhakar Mohanty, executive engineer of the Khariar Small Irrigation division.
The situation is so severe in these 19 blocks that farmers are seen manually spraying water on half-germinated paddy seeds to keep them alive while pinning their hopes on rain. According to sources, farmlands in some blocks have developed cracks while others have turned into grazing grounds for cattle, without rain.
A farmer from Kalahandi district said “I am worried as to how I will do farming without rainfall.”
Similar situation can be seen in Khariar and Sinapli blocks of Nuapada district where the paddy saplings have been affected by dry spell. In Bolangir district's Belpada, Muribahal, Bongomunda and Tureikela blocks paddy seeds have not even germinated and the situation is grim.
“Seeds have not germinated due to lack of rainfall. Now I am worried how I will repay loans as there is no hope of getting normal yield this season,” said a farmer of Nuapada district.
As per data received from the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), there was scanty rainfall in eight districts from June 1 till August 4. The affected districts were Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Sundergarh, Deogarh, Angul, Bolangir and Nuapada.
Meanwhile, the Agriculture department agreed that the situation might turn grim if there is no rainfall in coming days. However, Agriculture Minister, Pradeep Maharathy said special arrangements will be made in view of the situation.

“The State government is making arrangements to provide suitable seeds which could survive in heavy or deficit rainfall. But in areas where there is no chance of seeds germinating, Rabi seeds will be provided,” Maharathy added.
Agriculture department secretary, Sourav Garg said, “In some blocks there is less rainfall. However, if the rainfall revives in coming days, the shortfall will be replenished. When the government thinks an intervention is needed, it will step in.”
In a video which went viral on social media, Kumbhar claimed that he used his own money for treatment and visited SCB medical multiple times in the last 2 months but did not get any help from the State government.
He also said that he was hurt after his photo was used by the State government as a beneficiary of BSKY.
However, the H & FW department has said that Kumbhar was persuaded to mislead people on BSKY scheme. "Under BSKY he was given drugs, diagnostics, ECG, indoor bed, diet & other services free," the department tweeted.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of Boden police raided the house where the labourers were held captive in Makarbarli forest under Boden police limits of the district.
According to sources, all of them were being trafficked to Andhra Pradesh.
Later, arrangements were made to send all the rescued labourers to their villages in Dunguripalli and Baunsuni area.
As per report all the rescued labourers were allegedly being taken to the neighbouring state through an agent, who remains absconding. A police investigation is currently underway to nab all the accused involved in the case.
According to sources, the protest joined by hundreds of farmers and party workers was led by BJP State president Basant Panda. After a general body meeting held at Komna bus stand, protest was carried out near the new block office in the district.
Panda alleged that no steps have been taken by the State government to resolve issue of farmers.
"Residents of Komna and Khadiyal blocks are facing drought situation but the government has not declared it officially that's why we are protesting," the BJP State president said.
"Without adequate supply of water our crops are getting affected. Odisha government is not taking any steps to help us," a farmer Bhaja Majhi said.
Earlier on Monday, BJP workers had gheraoed several block offices across the State including the one in Bhubaneswar alleging that due to BJD workers, no work is getting done without paying ‘percentage commission’ (PC). Acting on a tip-off about illegal cough syrup (Corex) smuggling in the town, a team of police conducted a raid at a snack stall in bus stand that belongs to one Abadhuta Sahu and seized 30 bottles of illegal cough syrup during the raid.
Following an interrogation with Sahu, the cops raided the house of one Kumuda Rana and arrested him for his involvement in the illegal drugs trade.
Police informed that the duo was arrested and court forwarded while further investigation is on to find if there are other persons involved in the trade.
"Cases have been registered against them under 21 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and 27 Drugs and Cosmetics Act. The duo has been forwarded to the court,” said Nuapada DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) Swastik Panda.
"As per the direction of SP, a special team would be engaged to establish whether they were operating independently or have links with any national or international racket,” he added.
According to senior officials, cough syrups are considered as a medicine only when used for therapeutic purposes. However, there have been reports that a few syrups are being used as a psychotropic drug. The reason behind the demand for the cough syrup is its high Codeine content which is consumed by addicts.
According to sources, a few days back, Jamar had gone to Andhra Pradesh to work in a brick kiln. His parents however have alleged that the owner of the kiln was harassing and physically assaulting him.

According to sources, the millers are demanding cuts/concessions during procurement citing that paddy do not meet the fair average quality (FAQ) norms. Sources said that tonnes of paddy brought for sale by farmers from distant villages are lying outside the mandis and the farmers are spending sleepless nights to guard them.
The mandis in Dharambandha and Moharadihi are paralyzed since 2 days due to the dispute between the millers and farmers. As per allegations, the millers are demanding a reduction of 2-2.5 kilograms of paddy per quintal citing fair average quality (FAQ) norms.

"After complaints, the millers came and procured some of it. They are demanding more cuts and forcing us to sell our paddy in lower prices," said Om Prakash Kalar, President of Dharambandha Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society.
On the other hand, the District Supplies Officer has refuted the allegations made by the farmers and said 1.24 lakh quintal paddy have already been lifted from the mandis.
