As per reports, the girl was abducted by some miscreants on Thursday when she was going to Poparada from her home in Madhupatna.
The victim was sexually assaulted by her boyfriend and his accomplice and was later gang-raped by 11 accused, all reportedly photographers at RB Beach here.
After allegedly sexually assaulting the minor girl, Ghania killed her in an apparent bid to hide the crime and fled the spot.
The accused have been booked under Section 376D (gang rape) of the IPC, and sections of the Pocso Act, and the SC/ST act in women police station of the district.
As per reports, the minor girl was allegedly lured by Soren with puffed rice and was then taken to a secluded place and raped. The incident came to the fore after some locals found the girl writhing in pain and informed her parents.
The heinous crime came to the fore after their parents on Tuesday registered a complaint with the GRP.
The accused killed her and wrapped the victim’s body in a polythene sheet to hide his crime. Also, he fled the scene to escape arrest.
The accused had kidnapped a minor girl who was returning home after buying chocolates for her. After rape, they killed her in order to prevent her from speaking out.
As per the initial reports, the survivor (17) had left home on Ganesh Chaturthi (August 31) to visit her uncle’s place, some 3 to 4 km away from her house.
The police added that the victims managed to escape while Minto tried to take them to Chandigarh for selling them. The victims fled away from there and reached Delhi's Karol Bagh area by an autorickshaw.
Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta was hearing the bail plea of a 27-year-old man who was charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for sexually exploiting a minor girl but later marrying her.
Odisha witnessed 10,219 rape cases during the period between 2019 and 2022 (April) including 5584 cases of sexual assault against minor girls.
The accused, Subrat Behera, was absconding and has been caught by police after being on the run for almost 65 days.
"The girl's elder brother started sexually assaulting her around November 2020. Her grandfather and distant uncle used to touch her inappropriately," the police inspector said.
The Panchayat called a meeting, which was attended by 25-30 other villagers, where it was decided to settle the matter between the survivor’s family and the accused. At the meeting, the accused was imposed a penalty of Rs 90, 000 which was to be paid to the survivor’s family.
