This is a video released by the Maoist to instil fear in the minds of people whom they want to subvert. The purported video is from a praja court hearing somewhere in the dense forests of Telangana. The person blindfolded & with hands tied behind back had shunned the Maoists and surrendered to police to join the mainstream. 

They have been boycotted by their community members after a dictate by the village committee. While the village shops have been denied to them, none in the village is speaking with them. 

Taking suo-motu cognizance of media report, the NHRC has sought a report from Odisha Chief Secretary on the incident within six weeks. The Commission has also sought details on the status of investigation in connection with the case registered by the police.

One of the family members was even subjected to a punishment of rubbing his nose in his spit in full public view.

A man ended his life allegedly after a kangaroo court at Khatia village under Ranapur Police limits in Nayagarh district allegedly insulted him and levied a fine for accusing a doctor of negligence in duty.

In yet another instance of social injustice by a kangaroo court, three siblings were brutally thrashed and slapped with a fine of Rs 1 lakh as a punishment for allegedly practising sorcery at Hudisahi under Berhampur police limits in Balasore district.

Based on the complaint of the two families, Kamakhyanagar Sub-Collector has directed the Kankadahada Tehsildar, Block Development Officer (BDO) and Parjang Police Station to launch an investigation into the matter.
