About 50 people including children and women from Kharsia area in neighbouring Chhattisgarh state had gone to a temple on an islet in the middle of the river.

 “The government, after careful consideration is pleased to extend the area of operation of Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) to the urban cluster areas covering Sambalpur-Jharsuguda-Brajarajnagar-Belpahar cluster and Berhampur-Gopalpur-Chhatrapur-Hinjilicut-Digapahandi cluster under the operational jurisdiction of CRUT for running Mo Bus services in the district of Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Ganjam,” a notification issued by the Housing and Urban Development department read.

Senior Congress leader Suresh Routray said senior leaders of the party stayed away from the campaigning which, he said, was another reason for his party’s debacle in the by-election. 

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik addressed party workers at Sankha Bhawan, BJD’s office in Bhubaneswar, in the wake of the resounding victory of party candidate Dipali Das in Jharsuguda bypoll.

“It had been a dream of my father to build a new Jharsuguda. And I will fulfill my father’s dreams, by following the guidance of the Chief Minister,” said newly-elected Jharsuguda MLA Dipali Das.  

While a total of nine candidates are in the fray, it is a triangular contest between the BJP, the BJD, and the Congress. The three parties are hopeful of winning the bypoll. 

The strong rooms are under CCTV surveillance and the district administration officials are supervising the security arrangements.

Mahananda was initially posted at OSAP sixth battalion in Cuttack and was suspended a year ago for his unruly behaviour.
