The incident took place late Thursday night between Dhamtan Sahib, about 10 km from Narwana, and Tohana railway stations, they said.
The woman, Mandeep Kaur, 30, and her son were travelling in a general coach of the train.
The accused, Sandeep, who was alone in the wagon, started troubling and teasing her as the train crossed Dhamtan Sahib, the police said.
When she resisted, the man allegedly pushed her off the train. Later, as per the police, he also jumped off the moving train.
The accused was found unconscious near railway tracks, by the police. Later, the police came to know about his offence.
Before the crime, the victim called her husband Harjinder Singh and asked him to receive her at the railway station.
As the train reached Tohana, Harjinder Singh found his son weeping, who informed him about the crime.
The police in the morning found the body of the victim lying in fields.
Superintendent of Police Astha Modi told the media that the accused has been booked under Section 302 (murder) and 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to sources, DSP Surender Singh Bishnoi of the Haryana Police had gone out on a raid after receiving information about illegal mining operation. He reportedly had an altercation with the accused at the incident spot who ran over a dumper truck on him.
The mining mafia is very active in the Gurugram and Nuh districts. The felling of trees in Aravalli remains a threat to the environment. Along with this, there is a possibility of a loss of species of animals due to illegal mining.
After the tragic incident, Haryana Police issued a statement extending condolences to the bereaved family. The state police further assured that the guilty would be brought to justice.
"DSP Taoru Surender Singh laid down his life today in the line of duty. No effort shall be spared in bringing the offenders to face justice," Haryana Police tweeted.
Brahmapuri in Vidarbha (Maharashtra) recorded the highest maximum temperature at 44.1 degrees Celsius. Most parts of the country experienced a slight respite from severe heat wave, but in isolated pockets over north centre Maharashtra, heat wave conditions still prevailed on Thursday.
In Delhi-NCR, the maximum temperatures hovered comfortably around 35 to 37 degrees Celsius with only Najafgarh recording 38 degrees Celsius. Delhi's base station, Safdarjung recorded a maximum temperature of 37 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.
The dip in the temperature was a result of rains - although trace for many parts and light rain for some - in the Delhi NCR from Wednesday evening through the night. The met department has predicted partly cloudy sky with maximum temperature expected at 39 degrees Celsius.
From February 25 till May 3, the Delhi NCR witnessed a long dry spell with three back to back heat waves due to weak Western Disturbances breaking all heat records for March and April.
However, under the influence of the current Western Disturbance, isolated light rainfall is very likely over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the next three days. This has an impact on the temperatures across northwest Indian plains.
The deceased was aged around 35 years and the body was found tied to a metal barricade near the protest site, close to the Singhu border, they added.
"The Kundli police station received information at 5 am that a body was found near the farmers' protest site," a Sonipat police official said.
He said the deceased was found wearing only a pair of shorts.
"We have registered a case and further investigations are on to find out the culprits," Inspector General of Police, Rohtak Range, Sandeep Khirwar told PTI over the phone.
He said police have interrogated people near the protest site regarding the incident.
A case of murder has been registered against unidentified persons, the officer said.
Asked about a video clip circulating on the social media, in which some people accused the deceased of committing sacrilege, he said the matter is being investigated.
The body has been sent to the Sonipat civil hospital for post-mortem.

Puri: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) seized seven mobile phones from visitors on the temple premises here this morning.
Police have detained seven persons in this connection.
Sources said devotees from West Bengal, Jharkhand and Haryana visited the 12th century shrine this morning. Some servitors caught the visitors with mobile phones and later handed them over to SJTA.
When asked, the visitors claimed that during checking the security personnel did not ask them to keep the phones outside the temple.
"We did not know about the prohibition of mobile phones inside the temple. The security personnel allowed us after the checking at the entry point. But we have not clicked a single picture inside the temple. Rather, the servitors misbehaved with me and my daughter while taking away the mobile phones," said a female visitor from Jharkhand.
Temple Administrator (Rituals) said, "Experts will examine the mobile phones. Action will be taken If the visitors are found to have clicked any picture and posted the same on social media. Else, the cell phones will be returned."

Ganesh Salima of Tangarapalli in Sundergarh district was on a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi on March 27 with his wife Manju. While returning home, some miscreants kidnapped him from Old Delhi railway station and later engaged him in farm lands as bonded labourer at a place in Haryana, Ganesh told OTV.
With the help of a fellow labourer, he managed to make a call to his wife and narrated the suffering. Later, his wife provided the call details to police.
“I was not given proper food and forced to work every day in land without wage. I was not allowed to go outside and interact with anybody. Phone call was also restricted for me. A fellow labourer helped me speak to my wife when I narrated the ordeal to her,” he added.
His wife had registered a case of abduction at Old Delhi police station. However, police did not take the matter seriously, Manju alleged. Later, she met Sundergarh MP and Minister Jual Oram seeking his intervention.
“Initially, they (police) paid no heed to my case. After the minister’s intervention, they made efforts to trace my husband,” Manju said.
After Oram’s intervention, the investigating team tracked the phone call and traced Ganesh at a place in Kurukshetra.
The deceased has been identified as Umakanta Pradhan and Nalini Swain of Rajnagar area in Kendrapara district.

BJP candidate Krishan Lal Middha was declared elected after getting 50,566 votes. The winner will have a tenure of only nine months before the next Assembly polls.
This is the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) bagged the Jind assembly seat, making a new beginning in this "Jat" land seat.
A visibly happy Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said in Chandigarh: "People have again reposed their faith in the policies, governance and transparency of the BJP government in the state and the Centre. BJP workers worked hard."
Middha, a non-Jat candidate, is the son of two-time INLD legislator Hari Chand Middha, who passed away in August last year.
The recently launched Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) made an impressive debut in the by-election by finishing second. Its candidate, young turk Digvijay Singh Chautala, got 37,631 votes.
The Congress, which fielded a "strong candidate" in Randeep Surjewala, the party's national spokesman, finished a poor third with just 22,740 votes.
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), which won the Jind seat in the last two Assembly elections, fared miserably. The INLD finished fifth among leading parties, getting only 3,454 votes.
The Loktantar Suraksha Party (LSP), launched by rebel BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini, got 13,582 votes to finish at the fourth position.
Voting took place on January 28 with nearly 76 per cent of the 1.72 lakh voters exercising their franchise.
The Haryana Police and paramilitary forces used canes to disperse protesters during a demonstration in Jind town during the counting of votes.
Serial numbers of some EVMs (electronic voting machines) did not match with the list and this was objected to by the contesting candidates inside the counting centre.
As the news reached the activists of various parties, the protest started in Jind town, around 190 km from here, following which the police took action to disperse them.
The counting process was stopped for some time after the complaint regarding the EVMs but it resumed later.
Khattar said that people in Haryana will vote for the BJP and the party will win all 10 Lok Sabha seats as well as Assembly elections this year.
The by-election was important for all four major parties in the fray -- the BJP, Congress, INLD and JJP as both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are to be held later in 2019.
“The two are injured and have been admitted to a hospital,” Gurugram Police Commissioner K.K. Rao said.
“The doctors are monitoring the condition of the two, who have been very critically injured,” he said.
The incident occurred in Gurugram’s sector 49.
A preliminary report said security guard Mahipal Singh opened fire at the woman and her son, a senior police officer said. “We are trying to ascertain facts.”
A video shot by a passer-by showed the suspected assailant in uniform trying to lift the judge’s son and put him in a car, but fled the spot when he could not do so.
The injured have been identified as Ritu (38) and Dhruv (18), wife and son of Additional District Judge Shrikant.
The accused, Pankaj and Manish, were on the run for almost two weeks. They were arrested from Satnali in Mahendragarh district.
The victim, a 19-year-old school topper, was abducted and gang-raped after being drugged on September 12 while she was on the way to a coaching institute.
Earlier, the SIT announced the arrest of a third accused, Nishu and two other men - Deendayal, the owner of a tubewell room where the crime took place in Mahendragarh, and Sanjeev Kumar, a medical practitioner who had treated the victim.
Both Deendayal and Sanjeev were booked as they did not inform police despite knowing about the crime.
The police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for providing information on the absconding accused, all residents of Kanina village.
The victim, who has identified her attackers, and her parents had earlier accused the police of not taking action and dealing with the matter casually.
She said they gave her sedative-laced water to drink and gang-raped her in a room in agricultural fields till she fell unconscious. They later dumped her at a bus stop near her village.
The state police has set up a special investigation team (SIT), to be headed by Nuh Superintendent of Police (SP) Nazneen Bhasin, to probe the incident.
Though the victim initially told the police that she was allegedly gang-raped by three men, her father claimed that she had seen eight to 10 men around her when she regained consciousness following the gang-rape on Wednesday near Kanina village, around 350 km from here.
The three accused continued to evade arrest on Saturday, more than 72 hours after the incident.
The victim, who has identified her attackers, and her parents had said earlier that the police were not taking action in the matter and were dealing with it casually.
The accused, who belong to the same village as the victim, allegedly kidnapped the victim from Kanina bus stand while she was on her way for coaching classes.
She said that they gave her water to drink which was laced with sedative. They then took turns raping her in a room adjoining agricultural fields till she fell unconscious.
They later dumped her at a bus stop near the village.
The victim, a second year student in a college, topped the board examination and was felicitated by the President.
The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), A.S. Chawla, told the media here on Friday that all efforts were being made to arrest the accused.
The Haryana Police on Friday launched a manhunt after the girl alleged that she was raped by them on Wednesday near Kanina village.
The victim, who has identified her attackers, and her parents have said that the police were not taking action in the matter and were initially dealing with it casually.
The victim, a second year student in a college, topped the CBSE board examination in 2017 and was felicitated by the President earlier this year.
Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) A.S. Chawla told the media here on Friday that all efforts were being made to arrest the accused.
The three accused, who belong to the same village as the victim, allegedly kidnapped the student in their vehicle from Kanina bus stand on Wednesday while she was on her way for coaching classes.
She said that they gave her water to drink which was laced with sedative. They then took turns raping her near the Kanina village till she fell unconscious, she said.
They later dumped her at a bus stop near the village. The victim's family said that the women police station in Rewari initially refused to entertain their complaint citing issues of jurisdiction.
"We want justice. They have ruined the life of my daughter who is so good in studies. Where is the 'Beti Padaho Beti Bachao' slogan of the government now? The police harassed us while registering the case," the mother of the victim said.
The police later registered a 'Zero FIR' (in which the case is later transferred to the concerned police station).
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said the accused would be arrested soon and would face action as per law.
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said the incident showed the poor law and order situation in Haryana where women were not safe at all.
"I urge you to kindly use your good offices to persuade Haryana to continue supplying same levels of water to Delhi that it has been supplying for 22 years and not to disrupt it till the issue is decided by the Court," Kejriwal wrote.
He said that Haryana had been supplying 1,133 cusecs of water since 1996 and this should not be cut so that Delhi does not witness any water scarcity.
He said that any reduction in the water supply will affect the Chandrawal water plant which supplies water in VIP and NDMC areas, along with other places including the railway station and major hospitals.
Kejriwal, in another letter written to Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Friday, warned of chaos in the city after May 21 if the reduction in water supply continued.
"If the water supply from Haryana is reduced after May 21, there will be complete chaos in Delhi. It will lead to unprecedented law and order situation in Delhi," Kejriwal said.
Three fire engines were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire.
No casualty was reported in the incident, police said.
The fire was noticed on the second floor of the building in the morning before the government offices opened for work.
Hundreds of employees and officers work in the secretariat complex which is located in the high security zone of Sector 1 Capitol Complex.
Officials said short circuiting seemed to be the cause and investigations were on.
Speaking to IANS, Vijendra Singh, Karni Sena spokesperson, said: "Rajputs can never even think of attacking a school bus. This is a plot being created by politicians, who wish to weaken our peaceful protest."
"We have a history of leading from the front. We have never run away...," he said, adding those who pelted stones were not known to anyone "and hence Karni Sena was being blamed".
"No one saw who attacked the bus and yet we were blamed. Is there any logic in this immediate judgement?" Singh asked.
"Since the start of the protest, we have been calling for a peaceful movement. We have called for a peaceful janta curfew for today (Thursday) as well.
"We extend our gratitude to cinema hall owners who read our sentiments and didn't screen the movie, he added.
"Rajputs can never engage in violence with the innocent. They can never throw stones. We strongly deny our role in any such episode."
He also questioned the role of the electronic media, and said, "had the print media not been there, the electronic media might have killed the base of the fourth pillar of democracy by showing anything without verification."
The Karni Sena has been protesting vociferously against and has demanded a ban on Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmaavat", which they say distorts history.
The victim, Rita Chhabra, was sitting in her office when the alleged assailant came and opened fire on her from close range from his weapon.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she died.
The student, police sources said, was upset over being rusticated from the school.
The accused, who was overpowered by school staff, was handed over to the police and was being questioned.
Yamunanagar is around 100 km from here.
Staying the "notifications and orders" banning the release of the controversial film by the three states, a bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilklar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud said that the remaining states will also not issue orders banning the screening of the film.
Referring to its earlier judgement, the court said that it was incumbent upon the state governments to ensure the maintanence of law and order.
The court order came on the plea by the producers of the film -- Bhansali Productions and Viacom18 Motion Pictures -- challenging the ban on the screening of the film by the Gujarat, Rajasthan nand Haryana governments.
When the producers' counsel Mahesh Agrawal, mentioned the matter on Wednesday before a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra, Justice A.M. Khanwilkar and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and sought an expeditious hearing, the Chief Justice nodded but did not say anything.
Mahesh Agrawal was flanked by senior counsel Harish Salve, who is likely to argue the petition when it is listed before the court.
"Padmaavat" has been caught in a row over alleged distortion of facts -- a contention over which some Rajput organisations including Karni Sena have demanded a nationwide ban on the film. The Central Board of Film Certification had approved the film with some modifications in December.
Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana are among the states that have announced they will not let the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial hit the screens. It is slated to release on January 25.
In November last year, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea against release of the movie -- earlier titled "Padmavati" -- outside India.
The top court had on November 28, 2017 deprecated the people discussing the issue in public and critically commenting on "Padmavati".
"When the matter is pending before the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for grant of a certificate, nobody holding a responsible position should comment as it would amount to violation of the principle of the rule of law", the court had said on November 28.
Taking exception to comments by the political leaders cutting across the political spectrum, the court had said: "When a matter is pending for consideration before CBFC, how can persons in public authority comment on whether CBFC should issue certificate or not? It will prejudice the decision of CBFC," the court had added.
The top court had earlier rejected a plea for blocking the release of "Padmavati" -- as it was titled before the CBFC asked its producer to drop "i" in the title.
In the past, the top court has not appreciated the banning of the film by the states. These included Prakash Jha's "Aarakshan" based on caste reservation, "Dam 999" by the Tamil Nadu government and "Sadda Haq" allegedly for glorifying the extremism and its leader during the turbulent days in Punjab in the 1990s
"Aarakshan" was banned by the Uttar Pradesh government and "Sadda Haq" by the Punjab and Delhi governments and also by the Chandigarh administration.
Former World Championships silver-medallist Sarju Bala (48kg) of Manipur also cruised through to the semis, beating Madhya Pradesh's Deepa Kumari 5-0 at the National Boxing Academy in Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here.

Railway Sports Promotion Board's Sonia, on the other hand, defeated Uttarakhand's Kamla Bisht 5-0 in a completely lop-sided affair.
In other encounters, Haryana's Shashi Chopra also booked her place in the semi-finals defeating Dimple Tanwar of Rajasthan 5-0. Also, Telangana's Nikhat Zareen went one step closer to the gold after defeating Abha of Chhattisgarh 5-0.

Police said two brothers Isaan Mohammad and Shahzad along with Shakeel, Sonu, and Azaad Mohammad -- all residents of three villages in Faridabad district -- were thrashed by a mob of cow vigilantes on Friday when they were carrying meat in an auto-rickshaw.
On Saturday, police registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 323, 341, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code at Mujessar police station against unknown 15-20 persons for thrashing the five youths.
Police said on a complaint by Faridabad's Sanjay Colony resident Bajranji, the five youths too were booked in a cross-case under The Haryana Gauvansh and Gausamvardhan Act of 2015.
"A laboratory test has since established that the seized meat was of buffalo and not cow or its progeny. After the report, 15-20 unknown persons were booked under the IPC," a senior police officer told IANS.
No arrest has been made as yet.
"L&T has emerged as the lowest bidder of the tender issued by Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) to procure 50 Lakh smart meters," a Union Power Ministry statement here said.
"L&T quoted the lowest price of Rs 2,722 per single phase smart meter. 40 lakh smart meters will be deployed in UP and the remaining 10 lakh in Haryana," it said.
"The price quoted by L&T is 40-50 per cent lower than the current market rates."
At the price quoted by L&T, the total worth of order works out to be Rs 1,361 crore.
According to the government, 14 leading manufacturers from around the world participated in the bidding. The meters will be installed over a period of three years in a phased manner.
The meters are being procured for implementation of smart grid projects in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh since these states grapple with huge AT&C (aggregate technical and commercial) losses, with the latest figures for both the states being 28.42 per cent and 34.36 per cent, respectively, the statement added.
Police sources said a hard disk, which reportedly contains details of transactions worth Rs 700 crore, including property and hawala deals, of the Dera has been recovered and sent for detailed examination.
The 45-member committee, which included the Dera's headquarters campus (near Sirsa) chairman Vipassana and vice chairman P.R. Nain, is being accused of planning the violence in Panchkula and other places that left at least 38 people dead and 264 injured.
Dera followers had indulged in large-scale violence in Panchkula and Sirsa after the CBI court on August 25 convicted the sect chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh of rape.
The Haryana Police had last month issued a list of 43 'Most Wanted' people of the sect, including top functionaries Honeypreet Insan and Aditya Insan, who are the closest aides of Ram Rahim, for their role in the violence.
Honeypreet was arrested from neighbouring Punjab on Tuesday after being fugitive for 38 days. She was booked for sedition and inciting violence.
The disgraced sect chief, who was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment, is now lodged in the District Jail in Sunaria near Rohtak.
The animal entered the premises of Suzuki Powertrain India Limited in sector 8 (Phase 1) of Tau Devilal Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Manesar on the Delhi-Jaipur-Mumbai national highway.
A security guard of the factory spotted the leopard around 2.30 a.m. and raised an alarm.
Production was stopped as workers came out of the factory fearing an attack.
Suzuki Powertrain, spread over 750 acres in the foothills of the Aravali mountain range, makes diesel engines for Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) cars. It makes over 1,200 engines in a single shift.
"A team of Wildlife and Forest Department were conducting a search exercise for the leopard. But there are too many huge machines in the factory and the leopard might hide under one of them," a forest officer told IANS.
He said the leopard was also caught in the CCTV cameras installed at the factory.
Over 2,000 workers and staff of the company were sitting outside the main gate of the factory.
She was detained by the Punjab Police from the Zirkapur-Patiala highway and later handed over to the Haryana Police, a senior police official told IANS. The police had been on her trail for nearly a month and raids were conducted in Nepal, Rajasthan, Bihar and Haryana.
Confirming her arrest, Panchkula Police Commissioner A.S. Chawla told reporters that Honeypreet would be produced in a court on Wednesday.
A court in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, on September 25 issued arrest warrants against top Dera functionaries -- Honeypreet, Aditya Insan and Pawan Insan.
All three were booked by the Haryana Police on charges of sedition, inciting violence and being involved in a conspiracy to help the Dera chief escape after his conviction by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on August 25 on two counts of rape of female disciples in 1999.
The Haryana Police had sounded an international alert against all three.
Honeypreet, in her mid-30s, has been the closest aide of Ram Rahim since 2009.
Honeypreet, who has been claiming to be Ram Rahim's "adopted daughter", starred as the main heroine in five films he directed, produced and acted in over a period of three years.
Ram Rahim has been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of over Rs 30 lakh.
His rape conviction led to violence in Panchkula and Sirsa in Haryana, leaving 38 people dead and 264 injured. Isolated incidents of violence were also reported from Delhi and several other places in Punjab.
Police sources said here that the raids were being conducted in Delhi and nearby areas of the National Capital Region (NCR).
One raid was being conducted in a house in Greater Kailash-II in south Delhi.
The move came a day after Honeypreet, whose real name is Priyanka Taneja, moved the Delhi High Court seeking anticipatory transit bail.
A court in Panchkula, adjoining Chandigarh, on Monday issued arrest warrants against Honeypreet, Aditya Insan and Pawan Insan.
All three were booked by the Haryana Police on charges of sedition, inciting violence and being involved in the conspiracy to help the Dera chief escape after his conviction by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on August 25 on two counts of raping female disciples in 1999.
The Haryana Police had sounded an international alert against all three.
Honeypreet, in her mid-30s, is on the run since August 25, hours after Ram Rahim was convicted.
She has been the closest aide of Ram Rahim since 2009. The police is on her trail for nearly a month and raids have been conducted in Nepal, Rajasthan, Bihar and Haryana.
Honeypreet, who used to claim that she was Ram Rahim's "adopted daughter", starred as the main heroine in five films he directed, produced and acted in, in three years.
Last week, Honeypreet's former husband, Vishwas Gupta accused her and Ram Rahim of having illicit relations and said their father-daughter relationship was a sham to fool followers.
