Rising water levels in Mahanadi river is triggering flood in several areas of the State. Normal life was thrown out of gear in Pipili area of Puri following flood.

With the flood situation in Odisha worsening, the Engineer-in-Chief of the Water Resources department shared the details regarding the current flood scenario in the State.

Odisha SRC informed that seven ODRAF, three NDRF and 12 Odisha fire services teams have been deployed to Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Khordha for response support. He said he has personally discussed with all collectors in lower Mahanadi areas and advised them to keep all field level officials and elected representatives in full alert to deal with eventual flood situation.

As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to concentrate into a Depression during the next 48 hours. The Met department has issued 'Red Warning'  for heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places. 

The backwaters of Godavari River is triggering flood in Motu Block of Malkangiri, Odisha. Godavari’s tributaries Sabari and Sileru rivers are also now in spate.
