According to the latest IMD (India Meteorological Department) update, the cyclonic storm, after crossing the Bangladesh coast, weakened into a deep depression, and later into a depression, and lay 50 km east-southeast of Tripura's capital Agartala.
Skies remained clear in Mizoram, while overcast conditions prevailed in Tripura but neither of the northeastern states received any fresh rain since the early hours of Saturday. No damages have been reported so far.
Sundarbans area in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district received light showers on Friday but did not witness any fresh rainfall on Saturday. Fishermen, however, did not venture into deep seas as advised by the Met department.
"Deep depression (remnant of cyclonic storm Midhili) over Tripura & adjoining Bangladesh weakened into a depression and lay about 50 km east-southeast of Agartala and 160 km southwest of Silchar. To weaken into a WML (well-marked low pressure area) over south Assam and adjoining Mizoram-Tripura during next six hours," an IMD bulletin issued on Saturday morning said.
In view of the earlier IMD prediction of heavy rain, the Tripura government declared a holiday on Saturday for all government and private schools and anganwadi centres in the state.
Chief Minister Manik Saha, who is currently in Delhi, said in a Facebook post on Friday: "The meteorological department has predicted heavy rainfall with high velocity wind and lightning for two days i.e. Friday and Saturday due to cyclonic storm Midhili."
"The state administration is fully ready to meet any eventuality. Considering the gravity of the alert, all the government and private schools and anganwadi centres will remain closed on Saturday," he added.
In a special bulletin, the met department had said, "Under the influence of the cyclonic storm, an increase in rainfall activities accompanied with heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely to occur over Tripura during 17th and 18th November."
Due to heavy showers coupled with gusty wind, air services were badly affected at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala on Friday as three scheduled flights, two from Kolkata and one from Guwahati, could not land on the runway, an official of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) said.
However, flight services remained unaffected on Saturday as no fresh rainfall was witnessed since 4 am on Saturday.
On Friday, heavy rainfall affected normal life in Tripura as most people remained at home, while power supply was affected in some areas of Agartala.
In a new study, neurobiologists Northwestern University in the US induced mild, acute sleep deprivation in mice and then examined their behaviours and brain activity.
Not only did dopamine release increase during the acute sleep loss period, synaptic plasticity also was enhanced -- literally rewiring the brain to maintain the bubbly mood for the next few days.
The new findings, published online in the journal Neuron, could help researchers better understand how mood states transition naturally.
It also could lead to a more complete understanding of how fast-acting antidepressants (like ketamine) work and help researchers identify previously unknown targets for new antidepressant medications.
"Chronic sleep loss is well studied, and it's uniformly detrimental effects are widely documented," said Professor Yevgenia Kozorovitskiy at the varsity.
"But brief sleep loss -- like the equivalent of a student pulling an all-nighter before an exam -- is less understood.
"We found that sleep loss induces a potent antidepressant effect and rewires the brain. This is an important reminder of how our casual activities, such as a sleepless night, can fundamentally alter the brain in as little as a few hours," Kozorovitskiy added.
In the research, the team developed a new experiment to induce acute sleep loss in mice that did not have genetic predispositions related to human mood disorders.
The experimental setup needed to be gentle enough to avoid causing substantial stress for the animals but just uncomfortable enough to prevent the animals from falling asleep.
After a sleepless night, the animals' behaviour shifted to become more aggressive, hyperactive and hypersexual, compared to controls that experienced a typical night's sleep.
Using optical and genetically encoded tools, the researchers measured the activity of dopamine neurons, which are responsible for the brain's reward response. And they found activity was higher in animals during the brief sleep loss period.
While researchers do not fully understand why sleep loss causes this effect in the brain, Kozorovitskiy suspects evolution is at play.
Kozorovitskiy also cautions people not to start pulling all-nighters in order to brighten a blue mood.
"The antidepressant effect is transient, and we know the importance of a good night's sleep," she said.
"I would say you are better off hitting the gym or going for a nice walk. This new knowledge is more important when it comes to matching a person with the right antidepressant."
As per the IMD, the system is likely to intensify further into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal around October 22.

The day is dedicated for generating awareness on mental health issues around the world so that such issues are taken care of.
If one’s mental health is affected by any factor, his illness will affect his domestic life, apart from creating concern for others around him. Life goes haywire for the mentally ill or depressed persons. Even, many fail to cooperate with the problems of daily life and take extreme steps like suicide.
Among the major causes of depression are work pressure, long hours of work, failure to remarkable achievements, and peer pressure.
Let’s look at the case of Chandranaryan Pati, who works in a private company with a handsome salary. However, Pati says that he has little time for relaxation or spending time with his family due to work pressure.
“Work for 12 hours or even more leaves one exhausted with little time to relax. There is no peace in life,” he observed.
Depression -A Potential Killer
According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) report, 5651 people in Odisha committed suicide in 2021 for various reasons. Officials reports claim, that cases of mental illness and depression have been increasing particularly after the Covid pandemic.
In 2020-21, hospitals in the state treated 13, 258 mentally ill patients while their number rose to 17,158 in 2021-22. The number of such patients continued to rise to 21, 458 in 2022-23.
As for increasing cases of depression, Twin City Police Commissioner Soumendra Priyadarshi admitted that cases of suicide have certainly increased. However, there is no particular reason for depression, he said.
"Imminent cause may be stress which needs to be identified. It needs an analysis. Kota has reported 26 suicide cases this year. Here the stress is caused by fear of performance. In some cases, poverty has been a cause of suicide," said Priyadarshi.
Niranjan Mishra, Director of Public Health, observed that the gap between expectation and performance causes stress. The mentally ill people should be taken care of with proper medication.
As per the IMD, the system is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression during the next 12 hours. Several parts of Odisha are likely to experience heavy rainfall activities in the coming days.
The IMD has also issued an ‘orange warning’ for heavy rainfall in several districts.

That is why just as you monitor what you feed your body, it is equally important that you watch what you feed your mind. The one aspect that is always disregarded and overlooked is your mental health. But this emotional aspect plays a major role in determining your overall health and well-being.
A study conducted at Yale University has established the fact that people with strong emotions and a tendency to react strongly, particularly by getting angry are more likely to suffer heart issues and die from cardiac arrest.
What is this emotional junk food that impacts your mental health negatively? It can be everything that upsets your mental balance including grief, worry, anger, fear, ruination, depression, apathetic issues, disgust, frustration, and even inferiority complexes. All these negative feelings are similar to poison that slowly kills your health. They are the silent killers that affect your health sometimes even more than the junk food that you eat on the street-side.
All these negative emotions trigger disturbances in the normal functioning of the body due to which the body releases a stress chemical. This particular chemical saps your energy and increases the speed of aging. As a result, you lose both muscle mass as well as brain cells.
Just as it is difficult for the body to bounce back after a serious health issue, it is equally difficult for the mind to start functioning normally after it has lost its ability to think clearly or make decisions. Emotional junk creates disruptions in learning abilities and can lead to personality disorder, and chronic depression.
To ensure that you do not suffer from any mental issues it is important that you shift quickly from negative emotions into positive ones. Spending long hours and days in anxiety, anger or any type of negative emotions can be dangerous for your emotional health. Make sure that just as you focus on eating healthy, you feed your mind a healthy diet that is full of happiness, positivity, and joy.
If you are a pessimist or have a tendency to worry and get angry, make sure that you consult a therapist, or go to meditation or yoga sessions, but ensure that your mind stays positive and happy most of the time of the day.
"Many people are suffering from anxiety, which can be very disabling and interfere with daily life," said professor of psychiatry Alexander Niculescu, from Indiana University School of Medicine.
"The current approach is to talk to people about how they feel to see if they could be on medications, but some medications can be addictive and create more problems. We wanted to see if our approach to identify blood biomarkers could help us match people to existing medications that will work better and could be a non-addictive choice," Niculescu added.
The study, published in the journal Molecular Psychiatry, showed that examining the RNA biomarkers in blood samples helped researchers identify a patient's current state of anxiety. They matched them with medications and nutraceuticals, showing how effective different options could be for them based on their biology.
"In addition to medications, there are other methods to treat anxiety, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or lifestyle changes," Niculescu said.
"But having something objective like this where we can know what someone's current state is as well as their future risk and what treatment options match their profile is very powerful in helping people."
A person's biomarkers can also change over time. Niculescu said the test can help evaluate a person's risk of developing higher levels of anxiety in the future as well as how other factors might impact their anxiety, like hormonal changes.
Further, Niculescu said this new test could also be used in combination with the other blood tests his research has led to, providing a more comprehensive view of a patient's mental health and risk of future mental health concerns.
Researchers can also use the test to develop new treatments for anxiety that are more targeted to individual biomarkers.
"This is something that could be a panel test as part of a patient's regular wellness visits to evaluate their mental health over time and prevent any future distress," Niculescu said. "Prevention is better in the long run, so our goal is to be able to provide a comprehensive report for patients and their physicians using simply one tube of blood."

The actor has been arrested as part of investigation on charges of abetment to suicide. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Sheezan Khan was in touch with his secret girlfriend (one of his ex-girlfriends). He was in constant touch with her on WhatsApp.
Police claimed that Sheezan chatted with his ‘secret girlfriend’ for one to one-and-a-half hours on the day of Tunisha’s death. But, he later deleted all his chats with her after Tunisha’s death, police claimed.
This might have created rift between Sheezan and Tunisha, police suspect. Meanwhile, the police have found 250 pages of WhatsApp chats from Sheezan’s phone. Moreover, cops have written to WhatsApp to retrieve all the deleted chats for further probe.
Police are probing as to why Sheezan only deleted the chats with his ex-girlfriend and if there was any connection with Tunisha’s death.
Meanwhile, social media sensation Urfi Javed has shared a message on Tunisha death case and advised girls not to give their precious lives for anyone.
Taking to her Instagram stories, Urfi wrote, “My 2 cents on Tunisha’s case, yes he might be wrong, he might have cheated on her but we cannot blame him for her death. You absolutely cannot make someone stay with you who doesn’t want to stay. Girls no one I REPEAT NO ONE, is worth giving up your precious life for. Sometimes, it might just seem like the end of the world but trust me it’s not. Think about the people who love you or just try loving yourself a bit harder. Be your own hero. Please give time some time. Even after suicide, the suffering doesn’t end, the ones that are left behind suffer even more.”
On the other hand, police claimed Tunisha had spoken to Sheezan shortly before taking the extreme step. However, police is yet to confirm if the couple had a fight over some issue before Tunisha decided to end her life.
Meanwhile, police claimed Sheezan has been changing his statements and not cooperating in the probe.
On Tuesday, Tunisha was bid a teary farewell at the Mira Road crematorium ground in Mumbai. Many friends from film and TV fraternity were present during the farewell.
“I think this is a matter of love jihad and such cases are increasing day by day. We are mulling bringing a strict law against love jihad,” the Minister told ANI.
Meanwhile, Tunisha’s uncle Pawan Sharma has accused Sheezan Khan of cheating with multiple girls despite being in a live-in relationship with the Ali Baba: Dastaan-E-Kabul actress.
The couple had reportedly broken up just 15 days back, reports said.

— Rithvik Dhanjani (@rithvik_RD) December 25, 2022
Speaking to ANI, Pawan said, “We cannot believe that Tunisha is no more. She used to live with her mother in the Indraprastha building on Mira Road. She used to look after everything. Even after being in a relationship with Tunisha and living together, Sheezan used to keep in touch with many girls. This left Tunisha stressed and in depression. On December 16, Tunisha came to know that Sheezan was cheating on her and had an anxiety attack.”
Furthermore, there were reports of the actress, who would turn 21 and celebrate her birthday on January 4, being pregnant. However, post-mortem reports ruled out pregnancy and said she died due to suffocation. Police have also denied any angle of other affair, blackmailing or love jihad as of now.

However, ACP Chandrakant Jadhav said, “The investigation is underway. Both the accused and the deceased’s phones have been seized. There is no such angle as of now.”
Meanwhile, fans and friends from the TV fraternity mourned the passing away of the young actress.
Tunisha’s best friend and actor Kanwar Dhillon wrote, “Not Done Tunu,” while Mohsin Khan wrote, “May you always smile from d heavens Tunisha.”
Similarly, actor Paras Arora wrote, “Extremely shocked and sad, still can’t believe this. You were such a happy kid, Tunisha. Om Shanti.”
Fitoor director Abhishek Kapoor remembered the talented actress and wrote, “Shocked and deeply saddened. She was a young 13-year-old, a gifted and disciplined actor. Someone with a bright future and so much to give as an artist… this is so heartbreaking.”
Popular television actress Sayantani Ghosh shared her feelings on social media and wrote, “Butterflies can’t see their wings. They can’t see how truly beautiful they are, but everyone else can. You were like a butterfly, fluttering here and there, spreading joy. This is so hard to believe, still can’t process what just happened.. everything seems so fragile.”
Based on a complaint by Tunisha's mother, police registered a case and made the arrest. The two were co-stars and reportedly in a relationship.
Nothing much has been known about the reason for her alleged 'suicide'. Police have launched a probe into the incident, but the reason behind her extreme step is yet to be ascertained.

Now, the handsome hunk has finally opened up on battling depression and being surrounded by dismal and pessimistic thoughts at one time in his career. After a brief lull, the actor made his ‘damdar’ comeback with movies like Krrish 3 and Grand Masti.
He once again acclaimed his stardom and appears in movies across all the film industry including the South. He has become one of the most sought after actors once again. He has attributed his success to his family, his wife Prianka Alva and his little children.
Recalling his dark days, Oberoi stated that he could empathize to Sushant Singh Rajput's passing since he had at one time contemplated about ending things.
Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Oberoi said, “This place can be cruel, brutal, trying to crush you. The little prayers they make for me every now and then, that’s what kept it together for me. I just lost it otherwise. I am just constantly so upset with the negativity around me and maybe that was the agenda. The agenda is sometimes to break you mentally. But I think Priyanka had a big role in creating a haven for me now.”
He then added, “Which is why I relate to what happened with Sushant or what happens with other people. I felt that darkness and pain. This place can be pretty cruel. They can be brutal with trying to crush you and when lies are spoken so many times, so loudly and so many times, they become the truth. They force you to start believing that’s the truth about you but in hindsight with a lot of calmness, strength, and inner happiness, you realise that your truth is your truth and no one can take that away from you but you.”
On the professional front, Vivek’s online series Dharavi Bank, which is currently streaming on MX Player, has been receiving positive reviews.
The University of Arkansas recently published its research, which discovered substantial and predictable relationships between depression and all personality factors. The authors highlighted that the literature lacks studies that concentrate on how individuals interact with social media, resulting in depression.
Social media is probably meant for interaction, self-expression, and to foster a sense of community. The content is perceived in a passive way and arrests the mind of the perceiver, erupting the feelings of worry, sadness, and sleep deprivation, exposing kids to violence, abusive language, and bullying, and "FOMO" (fear of missing out). The inappropriate social comparison amplifies flaws about oneself. Unpleasant emotions and feelings can get triggered by engaging in negative content. Moreover, using social media frequently restricts face-to-face contacts and outdoor activities and can strain relationships.
However, the negative social media experiences can be enhanced as mentioned below.
Family media planning: Parents can set a time for using social media apps for everyone including themselves and can spend more time together while eating together at least 1 meal a day.
Interpersonal and intrapersonal communication: If people are aware of their emotions and how they relate to others. Because people have inborn emotional requirements for interpersonal relationships and understanding, through better communications, care, and a culture of kindness, we can make depression go away.
Take a break: Breathe afresh and avoid social media by in investing time in doing your favourite hobbies or working for your goals.
Self-blame is one of the reasons you may be struggling. Yes, it takes two to connect, but this wasn't entirely your fault. Understand that a lot is underlying an affair to uncover in a relationship. This will take some time, but knowing that it is a necessary part of the process and not viewing it as a one-person problem will help you get through it.
People often believe that they can simply move on after an affair, whether physical or emotional. This only aggravates the situation. There is no getting around the fact that this happened. We understand how difficult it is to confront the events that led to this situation in the first place. It means you must sit with all of your emotions and dig deep. Nothing beats digging deep and discovering internal resolve for yourself and your relationship.
Although it may be the last thing on your mind, you must prioritise the relationship and its development. This entails listening to your partner and understanding their needs and desires. This also includes investigating why they strayed in the first place, as well as what they crave in the relationship. When we learn to hear and understand our partners, it allows them to hear and understand us.
Getting an outside perspective can be beneficial at times. Whether or not you feel comfortable discussing the issues with your friends, social connection is essential during this time. A strong support system is essential for growth and healing.
Infidelity can occur in both happy and troubled relationships. But you have to love yourself during the healing process.

How to know if your dog is depressed?
Dogs can exhibit symptoms very similar to humans, ranging from withdrawing from social situations to being quieter than usual. Some of the evident signs of depression in dogs include:
It can be challenging to understand what they are suffering from, since the communication is non-verbal. Here’s how you can help is such situations
1. Offer your dog more attention
One of the most effective ways to help your depressed dog is by ensuring he/she gets more attention. It will surely help them come out of their shell.
2. Keep your dog active
A regular walk will ensure that your dog's mental and physical health is robust. Spending time in the fresh air will lighten his/her mood. Your dog may initially be reluctant for his walk or daily run, but over time, they will look forward to the activity.
3. Socialising
You might try encouraging your dog to socialise with other furry friends if your dog is feeling down. They are naturally social creatures, so you might want to give them an opportunity to play with other dogs.
4. Keep a regular routine
If you can maintain a routine for your pet, that should be able to ease them back into their regular routines as soon as possible. This may include taking them out for a walk at the same time each afternoon or telling them when dinner is ready.
Pet parents actually start thinking of their dogs as family and cannot see their furry BFF suffer. These tips may help you understand the pet’s moods better. You can also consult the vet to understand your pet’s temperament, to help him overcome depression.

Getting a break in the cine industry like Deepika, opposite Shah Rukh Khan in 2007 with Om Shanti Om, is what every aspiring actress dreams of. While fans remain highly hopeful about Deepu's movies, her recent film 'Gehraiyaan' came as a shocker for many and is still being trolled. Even '83' didn't perform well at the box office.
Like any other common person, celebrities also experience hardships and have ups, and downs. The 'Chennai Express' actress is no different.
During a recent interview, Deepika revealed that she was suffering from depression some years ago and was suicidal at times. However, the signs and symptoms were recognised at the right time and she fought back bravely.
Opening up about when she was suffering from depression, Deepika said, "I give all the credit to my mother for recognising the signs and symptoms because it just happened out of the blue."
She went on to add, "I was on a career-high, and everything was going well, so there was no reason or no apparent reason why I should've felt the way I was feeling."
"But, I would break down for no reason. There were days when I just didn't want to wake up, I would sleep because sleep for me was an escape, I was suicidal at times,” she said.
During the interview, the 'Cocktail' actress said that she used to behave normally in front of her parents. As her parents, who live in Bengaluru, visited her most often.
Further, she said, "Even now when they visit me, I always put on a brave front that everything's okay. You always want to show your parents that you are fine."
As per IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar, the system is likely to concentrate into a Depression during the next 48 hours. Subsequently, the system is likely to move west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, tweeted IMD’s Regional Centre. IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of the state.
The Met department has issued 'Red Warning' for heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at a few places (7 to 20cm) with extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) at isolated places over the districts of Kalahandi and Rayagada. (The warning is valid till 08:30 hours of August 8, 2022).
As per IMD, several parts of Odisha will experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. Barmul of Nayagarh district recorded the highest rainfall of 229.4 mm, followed by 180.3mm of rainfall in Padmapur of Rayagada district.

Fans got angry as the T-shirt depicts the actor in a negative light. The T-shirt in question carries the caption 'Depression is like drowning' with a picture of the late actor. This angered SSR fans who took to Twitter to voice their protest, and trended the hashtag #BoycottFlipkart. They called it ‘cheap marketing’.
Country has not yet come out of the shock of Sushant's tragic death.

We will keep raising our voice for justice..
Flipkart should be ashamed of this heinous act and should apologize that such incident will not be repeated again.#BoycottFlipkart pic.twitter.com/wEVLPYl5EH
The fans were angry as the T-Shirt claimed the actor was a victim of depression. However, no judgement has been passed on the actor’s death yet by the law as the CBI probe is on. Many claimed that this was done in bad taste and called out Flipkart to remove the product immediately.
Many on Twitter called it a 'smear campaign' against Rajput, and demanded an apology from the online shopping platform.
"Dragging a dead soul n labelling d specific pic as “Depression”!! What kind of cheap marketing is this ??" asked a user.
On the other hand, Flipkart is yet to comment on the controversy.
"It's not a correct way to develop your online stores. First you remove this t-shirts from sale. Don't play with another's emotions," another posted.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his room in Bandra, Mumbai in June 2020. A post-mortem report cited 'asphyxia due to hanging' as the cause of his death. Initial reports quoted Mumbai Police and stated the cause of his death was 'accidental death'.
Later, the case was handed over to the CBI, Enforcement Directorate, and the Narcotics Control Bureau for further investigation. In the latest development related to Sushant’s death, the NCB filed draft charges against Sushant’s then-girlfriend actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and others before a special court.
On the other hand, people who eat savoury snacks such as crisps, which are low in nutrients, are more likely to report greater levels of anxiety, said researchers from Aston University in the UK.
Published in the British Journal of Nutrition, the study surveyed 428 adults from across the UK and looked at the relationship between their consumption of fruit, vegetables, sweet and savoury food snacks, and their psychological health.
The results showed that both nutrient-rich fruit and nutrient-poor savoury snacks appeared to be linked to psychological health. But no direct association was found between eating vegetables and psychological health.
"Very little is known about how diet may affect mental health and wellbeing, and while we did not directly examine causality here, our findings could suggest that frequently snacking on nutrient-poor savoury foods may increase everyday mental lapses, which in turn reduces psychological health," said Nicola-Jayne Tuck lead author and doctoral student at the varsity.
"Both fruit and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, fibre and essential micronutrients which promote optimal brain function, but these nutrients can be lost during cooking. As we are more likely to eat fruit raw, this could potentially explain its stronger influence on our psychological health," Tuck said.
Based on the survey, the more often people ate fruit, the lower they scored for depression and the higher for mental wellbeing, independent of the overall quantity of fruit intake.
People who frequently snacked on nutrient-poor savoury foods (such as crisps) were more likely to experience 'everyday mental lapses' (known as subjective cognitive failures) and report lower mental wellbeing. A greater number of lapses was associated with higher reported symptoms of anxiety, stress and depression, and lower mental wellbeing scores.
"It is possible that changing what we snack on could be a really simple and easy way to improve our mental wellbeing," Tuck said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said it is very likely to maintain the intensity of depression during next 24 hours and weaken thereafter into a well marked low pressure area.
“It is very likely to move nearly westwards towards Oman coast across northwest Arabian Sea during next 48 hours,” said IMD.
As per IMD, the low pressure area lies over north Odisha and neighbourhood with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto middle tropospheric levels. The monsoon trough is active and south of its normal position. It is very likely to shift gradually northwards from tonight.

After his body was found hanging in his house on June 24 (Friday), OTV had reported that his family had donated his eyes at a hospital so that another person can benefit from this.
However, the nurse, Sumitra Rout, who helped donate his eyes after death turned out to be an acquaintance of Raimohan who usually meets her during his morning and evening walks.
As per Rout’s claims, Raimohan had once urged her to take out his eyes and let him die in order to be a part of this noble deed of eye donation.
Speaking to OTV correspondent Atulya Bout, she said, “He was a happy-go-lucky, jovial man. I have never seen him depressed or stressed. We met on morning walks and exchanged pleasantries. That is all.”
when I told him that I work at an eye hospital which facilitates and executes eye donations, he was in all praise and said that I wish I die soon so that my eyes too can be donated to another person in need,” Rout claimed.
Rout further said, “He never came across as a negative person like the characters he usually played in movies. In reality, he was the exact opposite and a gem of a person. I hope the truth behind his death comes out soon.”
Meanwhile, Bhubaneswar DCP, Prateek Singh has confirmed that Raimohan was indeed under depression before his death, but the exact reason behind this is still unknown.
Speaking to the reporters, Singh said, “The probe is underway. We are questioning his family members, neighbours and his driver. But the no triggering factor could be ascertained yet that could lead to his suicide.”
Raimohan had visited the Manchaswar Police station some months back. However, the DCP denied to divulge the reason behind his visit citing this has nothing to do with his suicide.
Mediterranean diet, which consists of fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, and grains, caused significant impact on young men's mental health.
According to researchers from the University of Technology Sydney, the study is the first randomised clinical trial to assess the impact of a Mediterranean diet on the symptoms of depression in young men aged 18-25.
The team conducted a 12-week randomised control trial, where the men were asked to switch to foods rich in colourful vegetables, legumes and wholegrains, oily fish, olive oil and raw, unsalted nuts from their regular as well as fast foods.
The findings, published in the peer-reviewed American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, suggested that doctors should recommend patients to a nutritionist or dietician as part of their treatment plan, the researchers said.
"The primary focus was on increasing diet quality with fresh wholefoods while reducing the intake of 'fast' foods, sugar and processed red meat," said researcher Jessica Bayes, a candidate in the UTS Faculty of Health.
"There are lots of reasons why scientifically we think food affects mood. For example, around 90 per cent of serotonin, a chemical that helps us feel happy, is made in our gut by our gut microbes.
"There is emerging evidence that these microbes can communicate to the brain via the vagus nerve, in what is called the gut-brain axis," Bayes said.
"The results showed that nearly all our participants stayed with the programme, and many were keen to continue the diet once the study ended, which shows how effective, tolerable and worthwhile they found the intervention," the researchers said.
The study "suggests that medical doctors and psychologists should consider referring depressed young men to a nutritionist or dietitian as an important component of treating clinical depression", she said.
State Special Relief Commissioner PK Jena today said that the government will concretize its relief plan and deployment of response teams after the low pressure over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal intensifies into a depression by 7th May evening.
As per the IMD forecast, the detail track, intensity and landfall course of the system can be better ascertained after the system develops into a depression.
The SRC has urged fishermen not to venture into sea after May 8 and also asked those in deep sea to return to the coast in view of the story weather. Indian Navy and Coast Guard have been put on alert to maintain vigil on the movement of fishermen.
Further elaborating on the cyclone preparedness, SRC Jena said all departments of the government have been asked to remain under high alert to tackle any emergency situation arising out of the cyclone.
Psilocybin is one of a number of psychedelics being explored as a potential therapy for psychiatric disorders. Several studies have trialled a synthesised form of the drug to treat patients with depression and anxiety, with promising results.
A team at Imperial College London's Centre for Psychedelic Research believes to have untangled how psilocybin exerts its therapeutic effects on the brain.
The new results, taken from two combined studies including about 60 adults, reveal that people who responded to psilocybin-assisted therapy showed increased brain connectivity not just during their treatment, but up to three weeks afterwards.
This "opening up" effect was associated with self-reported improvements in their depression.
However, similar changes in brain connectivity were not seen in those treated with a conventional antidepressant (called escitalopram), suggesting the psychedelic works differently in treating depression.
According to the team, the findings, published in the journal Nature Medicine, are a promising advance for psilocybin therapy, with the effects replicated across two studies.
They explain that patterns of brain activity in depression can become rigid and restricted, and that psilocybin could potentially help the brain to break out of this rut in a way that traditional therapies cannot.
"The effect seen with psilocybin is consistent across two studies, related to people getting better, and was not seen with a conventional antidepressant," said Professor Robin Carhart-Harris, from University of California, San Francisco.
"In previous studies we had seen a similar effect in the brain when people were scanned whilst on a psychedelic, but here we're seeing it weeks after treatment for depression, which suggests a carry over' of the acute drug action," Carhart-Harris, who was former Head of the Imperial Centre for Psychedelic Research.
The researchers added that while follow-up data is still being analysed for participants, initial changes in brain activity one day following treatment were a good predictor of whether a person would still show improvement at six months.
However, they cautioned that patients with depression should not attempt to self-medicate with psilocybin, as taking magic mushrooms or psilocybin in the absence of safeguards may not have a positive outcome.
