A new research article published in a peer-reviewed journal shows that India could cut its electricity costs by about 40 per cent with a rapid transition of its power sector from coal to renewables by 2050.
The protesters demanded to include the 192 acre land at Phase-3 in Gopal Prasad under the rehabilitation scheme and provide jobs to each member from the 140 families evicted from the land for mining.
The government on Wednesday said there is an appropriate amount of coal stocks in the country and there is no need to panic.
While Indian national politics have hesitated to engage in discussion on moving away from coal for multiple reasons, progress is being made at the sub-national level, with several states considering pivoting away from new coal.
