CBSE is all set to conduct the Class 10 and 12 Term 2 board exams from April 26. While the Class 10 Term 2 exam will end on May 24, CBSE Class 12 board exam will conclude on June 15.
For the first time, the CBSE is conducting the board exams in two terms. The Term 2 exams will be of 120 minutes for each subject and based on both MCQs and subjective questions.

On the other hand, recently, some Class 10 and 12 students along with some private schools urged the CBSE to slash the weightage of the Term I exam for the 2021-2022 session. They alleged that many schools adopted unfair means and malpractices while marking students during the Term 1 exams.
CBSE had earlier informed that the weightage of Term I and Term II exams will be decided at the time of declaration of Term II result and accordingly, the final performance will be calculated.
In an affidavit submitted before the Apex Court by CBSE, it was stated that when the issue was published as a news item in a local newspaper in August 2021, the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) took suo motu cognizance of the same and subsequently directed to form a three-member committee to conduct an inquiry into the matter, reported LiveLaw.
The plea, which was filed by 24 students who have passed out class 10 from a school in Odisha, has sought a direction to the CBSE to review and declare their result afresh based on the board's evaluation policy of May 1, 2021, after collecting the correct record from the school.
"It was concluded in the Inquiry Report that by going through all the activities of result committee in respect of Class X 2021 of aforesaid school, the Committee was of the opinion that the school prepared the result of Class X students as per the Tabulation Policy and subsequent FAQ's issued by the CBSE," the affidavit stated.
The petition, filed through advocate Ravi Prakash, has urged the top court to direct an inquiry against the school "for illegally demanding money and putting undue pressure to take admission in class 11 in the same school to get good scores in class 10".
In an affidavit, filed by the controller of examinations, the CBSE said that the petitioners are not entitled to claim the attendance sheet of the entire class 10 for each examination and each subject.
"I, therefore, submit that the petitioners are entitled to know their internal assessment marks, the highest average in the preceding three years and the marks assigned by the result committee to them, from their school but that does not mean that they can claim the attendance sheet, report of result committee and detailed scorecard of all the students of class X of their school," the controller of examinations has said in the affidavit.
It further said that the petitioners had written a letter to the CBSE in August last year claiming that the school had reduced their marks in class 10 and poor-performing students were awarded very good marks.
It further said an exemplary cost may be imposed on the school for causing mental trauma and harassment to the petitioner students while alleging that marks of students, who were denied to take admission in class 11 in the same school, were illegally deducted.

While some of them are demanding the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to cancel the exam citing risk to life due to the recent rise in Covid infections, a section of students are bent on their cancellation demand stating that it is not at all feasible for them to cover 50 per cent syllabus in 60 days.
These students have also urged the intervention of the Central government. "The Board had given us around 7-8 months time for the Term 1 exam which covered 50 per cent of our syllabus. Now, for the Term 2 exam, which covers the rest 50 per cent syllabus, we have got only two months," said a student.
The government should pay attention to our concerns and must intervene. Writing the Term 2 exams without completion of the syllabus is nothing more than deceiving self. Has anyone thought about the ramifications it will have on a student's career? Students will suffer while taking entrance exams post the Class 12 Board exam, he reasoned.
Raising the same issue, a Twitterati wrote, "8months were given for term1which covered50% syllabus based on MCQs Pattern and now2months are given to cover term2syllabus which will also gonna to cover50% remaining syllabus which will based on Subjective mode. wahh kya equality hain."
"Make term 2 MCQ at least to reduce our stress it's impossible to study a descriptive paper with 50% syllabus in a month. While we got 8 Months for a MCQ paper. How do you expect us to study a descriptive paper in such a short time at least make it MCQ," wrote another Twitter user.
CBSE is likely to conduct the Class 10 and 12 Board exams in March-April. The duration of the Term 2 exams is likely to be of two hours; questions will be of subjective type. The final result of students will be decided on the basis of 50-50 per cent marks of Term 1 and Term 2 exams.
The students also moved the Supreme Court; and hearing their plea, the SC on Monday sought a response from the private school for allegedly demanding money and putting undue pressure on the students.
According to PTI, a bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar took note of the submission of the lawyer of the students and issued notice to St Xavier International School in Bhubaneswar.
“The counsel for the petitioner submits that in terms of liberty granted by this court, a copy of the petition has been given to the respondents. None appears for Respondent 3 (school). Accordingly, issue notice returnable on February 14...,” ordered the bench.
The apex court had earlier also issued notices to the CBSE and the Centre on the plea filed by students, including Subhashish Behera, through lawyer Mamta Sharma.
In the plea, the students alleged that those who agreed to the demands of the schools were granted good marks while marks of those opposed to the school’s direction were deducted arbitrarily and illegally.
Meanwhile, the school authorities could not be contacted to comment on the allegations of the students.
The chances of the second term of the board examination getting cancelled this year are very slim, as health experts had earlier mentioned that the third wave is under control.
However, students who decide to skip the exams will be graded on the basis of their first term's test results.
The duration of the second phase of exams will be of two hours and the questions will be subjective.
Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Academic Director of CBSE, told IANS: "The sample question papers and the marking schemes for Term 2 examinations of Class 10 and 12 have been released on the website and the schools affiliated to CBSE Board have been alerted too."
Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE's controller of examinations, said: "If the situation gets worse, only then the second term of examinations will not be held. Marks obtained in the first phase will be considered final and based on them, the results will be prepared. But if such a situation does not arise and the second term is held successfully, the final result will be decided on the basis of 50-50 per cent marks of these two terms."
Both the Union Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health are paying special attention to the vaccination of students between the 15-18 years of age group so that they can appear for the board exams safely.
Pankaj Rathore, principal of Seth Jaipuria School, said: "The preparation for the exam and the Covid situation has made children used to the hybrid mode of learning. School's new method of evaluation will help us move beyond the traditional notions of assessment. Schools must keep up with the situation and ensure that students are well prepared for pre board and board exams.
He added: "Offline classes are being planned for these children after immunisation of the 15-18 years age group is complete. Vaccination camps within the school premises will help the children feel at home. It is important to observe the students for a few days after vaccination as their health is our top priority."
Talking about the children's health being the first priority, the Ministry of Education said that the CBSE Board exams will be held while strictly adhering to all the Covid protocols. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is soon going to do a show called 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' for which more and more students, teachers and parents are being encouraged to register.
According to the Ministry, this year the format of this programme has been proposed to be kept online like last year. An online creative writing competition on various topics is being organised from December 28 to January 20 to select the participants. The questions asked by the selected winners will be included in the 'Pariksha Pe Charcha' programme.
School students, teachers and parents of Classes 9-12 students will be selected through an online competition.

In the class 10 exam conducted on Saturday, the question paper carried a comprehension passage with sentences like "emancipation of women destroyed the parent's authority over the children" and "it was only by accepting her husband's way that a mother could gain obedience over the younger ones", among others.

The CBSE and CISCE students demand that the upcoming class 10 and class 12 board exams should either be cancelled or held online.
Recently, the CBSE said that the term 1 exams will be held in offline mode in November. The CISCE also stated that the upcoming board exams will be held in pen and paper mode only.
"ICSE took the initiative to conduct the 2022 year-end exams for class 10 and 12 using the term system. This system however was forced upon us.. and we had no choice. We as students and parents wonder.. What exactly was the point of doing this? That too MONTHS after CBSE announced it...
However, we went along with it, hoping for the best. In this announcement ICSE specifically stated the first term exams would be ONLINE + MCQ. This is a safer way of conducting exams which have been adopted by hundreds of universities and schools around the world," the students said in the online petition.
"Taking the exams offline (CBSE and CICSE) is a huge mistake. If you need more time to correct the online examination program, please do so.. But risking students lives is absolutely not worth it," they added.
Refuting the rumours, the board said that "'it has come to the notice that CBSE will provide Classes IX and XI Question Papers for conduct of examinations in all its schools. In this regard, it is clarified that it is fake news and there is no such plan on the agenda of the CBSE.
” The circular further reiterated that students and parents should ‘not believe in any such information which is circulating on social media and not available on the Board's website.’ The board firmly informed that it issues all information on its website first and hence only the information from CBSE's website is authentic.
Meanwhile, taking to twitter, the government’s fact checking agency, PIB fact check also alerted against a WhatsApp message claiming that ‘the question paper of class 9th and 11th final examinations will be prepared by the CBSE is in circulation.
PIB, in the tweet, mentioned that the claim is fake and CBSE has made no announcement, urging everyone to refrain from forwarding such false messages.
It is pertinent to mention that in its last circular, the board had informed regarding the changes in next year's board examination, but had not mentioned anything regarding the final exams for Classes 9th and 11th.
As the Supreme Court had asked CBSE and other boards to declare results by July 31, the Class 10 results were expected to be out on August 1 or by August 2. However, it seems results might get delayed further. CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj reportedly informed that the Board results for Class 10 students may be declared this week.
Though the official did not confirm the date and time of result declaration, he said that the Board would start working on Class 10th result and try to deliver it by next week, i.e., before August 8.
Once the results are declared, students can access their scores on the official websites of the CBSE – cbseresults.nic.in and cbse.gov.in. Students will need to use their roll numbers. Those who don’t have their roll numbers can download it from cbse.gov.in.
The notice issued by the CBSE stated that candidates can download their individual admit cards from the official website. Similarly, schools which have been identified as examination centres can also download the materials for the candidates appearing from their centres.

For the revised date sheet for Class 12 board exam 2019, students are advised to visit the official website of CBSE- cbse.nic.in- to check and download the revised date sheet.
Moreover, CBSE kept the questions on Python optional as a few schools have the chapter on this language in the academic year 2017-19. The Computer Science exam is scheduled to be held on March 28.

The High Court had said, “This court has every reason to believe that there is a hidden agenda between CBSE officials and private book publishers. That’s the reason why even a direction to use the NCERT books alone is being appealed by the CBSE. The CBSE is bound to follow the NCERT syllabus, which has been prescribed by experts.”
Besides, the HC directed CBSE to strictly use the NCERT supplied textbooks for students in its affiliated schools.
The HRD ministry has told the board to follow the HC order and make the NCERT syllabus and books mandatory in schools. “This has been communicated to the board. NCERT is publishing books in bulk and they have an excellent online system,” News18.com quoted an official from the ministry as saying.

On the other hand, the Board will soon released the date sheets for the CBSE class 10th and 12th board examinations 2019.
It is expected that the Board will release the date sheets sooner this year than usually it does. The Board used to release the date sheets in the month of January for the examinations that were held in March.
The recent MHRD bylaws now require schools to submit two documents while applying for application - a document from the head of district education administration validating all aspects like sanitation and building safety among others; and a self-affidavit where the schools have to certify their adherence to fee norms, infrastructure norms and others.
The State has over 350 CBSE-affiliated schools and it is feared that the new bylaws will result in corruption when it comes to inspections. Besides, schools losing autonomy and bureaucratic interference will also be noticed, feel experts.
Earlier last week, Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had said that the Board will soon start processing an application for affiliation with just a no-objection certificate (NOC) and a self-sworn affidavit in hand.
“There was a lot of duplicity of work. Earlier, once a school had the nod of the state government, the CBSE would reverify all the aspects already checked by the state government. This turned into a long-drawn process. Now the Board will not revisit any of the aspects already covered by the state government at the time of giving the school an NOC,” Javadekar had said.
The Board affiliated private schools are not allowed to register over 40 students per section but the CBSE has found out that many schools are violating the norms following which the Board has decided to impose a fine of Rs 500 per extra student.
Besides, CBSE will also issue a show-cause notice for withdrawal of affiliation for those schools.
This move of CBSE is expected to root out renting of seats by schools where students get registered in schools and join private coaching centers, reported TOI.

A CBSE notification read, “Schools should enter number of sections and number of students which should be in consonance with the information provided on OASIS. This information should be filled very carefully in OASIS as schools will not be allowed to change the declared section/strength afterwards.”
CBSE has reportedly decided to exempt students from the mandatory percentage norm and extend the rule where students have to achieve a combined 33% of marks to pass the exam.
Under the new system, CBSE will have two separate Mathematics question paper – one 'easy' and another 'tough' – so that the students who don’t want to study the subject further can appear for the easier one.
The subject expert committee is examining the proposal and once the it is approved by the board internally, it will be sent to the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for approval.
This move of the CBSE has received mixed reaction from teachers.

This is not the right way to combat the fear factor among students on the subject. Judging whether a student at class 9th whether he/she should go for the difficult or the easy paper is not appropriate as students progress from one class to another.
- said a Professor at the Regional Institute of Education Bhubaneswar, Pritish Acharya.
The under graduate level national level medical entrance examination is scheduled to be held on May 6.

"The use of computer shall be limited to only for typing the answers, for viewing the questions in enlarged font size and for listening to the question items. This apart, the Board has also approved the provision for allowing a reader in case the student with a disability does not want scribe facility but needs a person to read the question paper.

"The school boards may continue with their moderation policy and grant marks for papers with "unusually difficult" or "ambiguous" questions and offer a level-playing field to all students in the evaluation process," the advisory issued by school education secretary Anil Swarup read.
“Bunching of marks and spiking should be completely avoided. The practice of awarding grace marks should continue to pass their borderline cases (students who are failing by a few marks)," it further stated.
Earlier, CBSE and 32 other boards, in a meeting on April 24 this year, had decided to do away with the spiking of marks or the moderation system as some state boards were seen increasing marks of their students, spiking their overall pass percentage.

However, the Delhi High Court had asked the CBSE not to scrap the policy stating that it was not advisable to implement the change 'mid-way'.
Meanwhile, CBSE is likely to develop model sample question papers for all the boards to ensure uniformity in the papers of various boards. And the awarded grace marks will be mentioned in the mark sheets of students.
The sample question papers is expected to help states decide how many questions should be difficult, easy and what type of questions should be used. Depending on the state’s requirement they will use the sample questions to develop their own question papers. This is likely to bring in greater uniformity in the evaluation system.
The inter-board working group headed by the chairman of CBSE, RK Chaturvedi had made the recommendations in a meeting on August 28.

Citing that schools are finalizing their data with full capacity, CBSE highlighted that teachers are under stress as the deadline of July 22 is approaching fast. The board mentioned in its notice that teachers are getting panicky and committing mistakes and sending request to CBSE to rectify these.
Given the time constraints and problems faced by the schools and teachers, the board said that it has decided to extend the last date. The CBSE has also urged the schools to work towards compiling the result by completing the moderation to avoid any last minute rush.
Moreover, the Board has reiterated that in case any school is left to complete the moderation, the result of such schools will be declared separately. In an earlier notification, the board had said that declaration of valid, reliable and unbiased results of the students in the pandemic situation is the common objective.
In case of the Private candidates, neither a school nor CBSE has the desired records, hence, their result cannot be prepared based on the assessment policy which is being done for the regular students this year.
There will be written examination for declaring result of private candidates. The Board will conduct the exams for private category of students between 16th August, 2021 and 15th September 2021 and their result will also be declared in the minimum possible time to avoid any difficulty to them in admission in higher education. The notification in this regard will be issued, the CBSE said.
Meanwhile, both UGC and the CBSE are looking into the interest of all the students and the former will be synchronizing admission schedule based on the result of these students as it was done by it in 2020, the board said.
Who are Private Students?
Who were regular students in CBSE earlier and failed to qualify in first or second attempt or want to sit for improvement or in an additional subject.
Besides. some candidates are private candidates from Delhi, who are allowed to sit for CBSE Board exams like Patrachar and Female candidates.
The decision has come against the backdrop of the trend of rote learning among students and as part of a revamp that also includes holding vocational subject tests earlier and early declaration of results.
"The questions will be more in the nature of problem-solving. There will be more short questions (between 1 to 5 marks). The stress would be on probing the critical thinking abilities of students and test actual learning outcomes rather than allow students to score high marks by virtue of rote," The Times of India reported quoted a senior HRD ministry official as saying.
Besides to ensure quality of education, the Board has also reportedly submitted a new ‘CBSE bylaws’ to the HRD ministry which focuses on academic quality of an institution during affiliation/renewal of schools.
"The proposals will take another three-four months to crystallise. However, the board is already working toward the changes in the pattern of questions from 2020," the official added.
Moreover, CBSE schools, in some cities, are reportedly dropping subjects such as Moral Science and General Knowledge enabling students to devote more time towards physical education classes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) G Ram Gopal Naik confirmed the chargesheet has been filed against 10 persons on Thursday in a city court.
The 482-page chargesheet has cited 78 witnesses including the girl student, for whom her teacher leaked the paper and some students who had received the papers through WhatsApp, said another officer.
Recovered mobile phones, handwritten notes, question paper written by the girl student and other data retrieved from cell phones have been cited as evidence in the chargesheet.
"The teacher, Rakesh Kumar, wanted to favour a girl student and with the connivance of bank officials, he got the Economics paper and brought it to his residence. He called the girl home and she copied the paper and then he clicked pictures of the paper and circulated it. The girl is one of the witnesses in the case," said the officer.
Since he had access to the papers, he also leaked the Class 10 Mathematics paper in the same way to favour a woman relative in Ferozpur whose son was appearing for the Boards.
Along with Kumar, Sheru Ram, branch manager of Union Bank Of India, Om Prakash, head cashier of the same bank and a 40-year-old woman, who had circulated hand-written question papers of Class 12 economics and Class 10 mathematics via instant messaging platform WhatsApp from her mobile phone, were also arrested and have been named in the chargesheet as accused.
Two others, Amit Sharma and Ashok Kumar, who worked at the DAV school in Una along with Kumar, have also been named in the chargesheet, the officer said.
Apart from this, the police had also busted another module being operated by two teachers of Mother Khazani Convent School in Bawana.
In the Bawana module, three men, including two teachers of the private school, were involved.
The teachers - Rishabh and Rohit - had taken photographs of the economics paper and sent it to Tauqeer, who used to give private tuition. Tauqeer circulated the paper among his students about an hour before the examination commenced, police had said, adding, he had received the paper via WhatsApp from Rishabh and Rohit.
The principal of Mother Khazani School, Praveen Kumar Jha, was arrested in July and his name also figures in the chargesheet, the officer said.
The economics paper leak was exposed after an envelope containing four images of a hand-written copy of the question paper was delivered to the CBSE Headquarters in Delhi on the evening of March 26, the day of the exam.
On March 30, the Central Board of Secondary Education announced it would re-conduct the Class 12 economics exam throughout the country on April 25.
Besides the Class 12 economics paper, the mathematics paper of Class 10 had also surfaced online before the scheduled examination.
The Delhi Police had registered two cases in connection with the paper leak. The first case related to the leak of economics paper was registered on March 27, while the other pertaining to the leak of mathematics paper was filed on March 28.
The exams for Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers were held on March 28 and March 26 respectively.
After reports of the leak surfaced on March 28, the CBSE had announced it would re-conduct the economics exam on April 25.
The board had decided against holding a re-examination for mathematics, saying the examination was "largely an internal segment" of the school education system.
The results for Class 12 and 10 boards were announced on May 26 and 29 respectively.
The CBSE had come under attack after the economics paper of the Class 12 board exams was leaked in March, affecting lakhs of students, and a re-examination was ordered.
"The Secretary of Education has appointed a committee to explore how technology can be used to prevent any recurrence of such a situation.-
- Swarup said.
He asserted that no CBSE official was involved in the leak scandal and that it was perpetrated by a handful of tech-savvy people.
"Today, technology allows us to improve that situation. And we have to see that it is not repeated, keeping in mind that there are smarter people," Swarup said.
Swarup took exception when a participant alleged that someone from the CBSE might have been involved in the paper leak.
"We get hundreds of mails and if our official gets a mail at 10:15 am about a leak, you cannot stop the examination to be held at 4,000 centres and inconvenience 11 lakh children," he said.
Swarup also called for thinking out-of-the-box while imparting education to children.
He said, "I suggest every school set up a nursery to enable the students see by themselves how plants grow. Why should we always think about teaching in a formal fashion?"
On the allegation of "irregularities" in conducting the NEET national medical entrance examination in West Bengal, Swarup said, "The NEET has been conducted very neatly by the CBSE and there was absolutely nothing wrong."
"Some, who wanted the questions in Bengali, got those in English and yet again, some who wanted the papers in English got the Bengali papers. But at the hall, all of them said that they were ready to write the answers in the language of the questions they were given," he said.
However, they were ready to listen to any grievances in this regard, Swarup added.
New Delhi: The HRD Ministry has warned students and parents against "fake leak mafias", saying a purportedly leaked political science paper is doing rounds on social media.
"Fake leak mafias are at it again. Students and parents are advised not to fall prey to such mischiefs. The political science paper purported to have been leaked is fake. Similar attempts were made in the past to disrupt smooth conduct of CBSE exams," HRD's School Education Secretary Anil Swarup said.
The HRD Ministry has set up a "high-powered committee" to examine the process by which the CBSE conducts examinations, following the alleged leak of the Class 10 mathematics and the Class 12 economics papers.
The Ministry had last week announced the re-examination of the CBSE Class 12 economics paper on April 25.
It had said the Class 10 mathematics re-test, if required, would be conducted only for the Delhi-NCR region and Haryana in July. However, it decided against conducting the latter.
As per reports, the Department of Education has initiated the process to introduce the NCERT curriculum to replace the existing one prescribed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath told reporters after a Cabinet meeting last Thursday.
The minister said the department has already procured over 2 lakh new books and 64,000 books will soon be reaching the state. The change in curriculum will take the state's education system to the national level, he added.
Shortly after coming to power in March 2018, the BJP-Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT) government set up an expert committee for reviewing school syllabus. The panel had recommended the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) curriculum for schools in the state.
The panel had also suggested the implementation of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus across all government and government-aided schools in the state.
The state Cabinet has also asked the education department to examine whether school timings could be changed.
Currently all government and government-aided schools have two shifts -- the morning shift and the afternoon shift.
Nath said the government has decided to bring an ordinance to constitute a state-level higher education board in accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
"If the board is not put in place, the MHRD may curtail outlay under the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA)," he said.

The Prime Minister said that the decision to cancel the CBSE Class XII board exams was taken keeping in mind the student's interest.
The Prime Minister also interacted with some students and parents during the interaction.
Modi advised students to use their time in a creative and productive way following the cancellation of Class XII board exams.
The Prime Minister also advised the students not to take the stress of any exam in their lives. Modi then asked the students about their feelings following the cancellation of exams in view of the Covid pandemic, wanting to know their plans.
The Prime Minister said that with team spirit, which is taught in schools and colleges, the country will emerge victorious in the battle against the pandemic.
Welcoming the government move to cancel the exams, many students told the Prime Minister that it was a ‘good decision'.
The students and some parents also shared their views on the cancellation of exams with the Prime Minister, saying the decision brought relief for them besides ending the uncertainty prevailed over the exams.
The Prime Minister also urged students to do research and write an essay on 75 years of India's Independence.
He said they should always remember the mantra of 'health is wealth' and asked what they do to remain physically fit.
In view of the uncertain conditions brought about by the pandemic and taking into account the feedback obtained from the various stakeholders, the Centre on Tuesday decided to cancel the CBSE Class XII board exams for 2021.
After the government's decision, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) also scrapped the ISC Class XII exams for this year, saying that a scheme for evaluating the students will be announced soon.
The decision to cancel the CBSE Class XII board exams was taken in a review meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.
The CBSE is also planning to provide logistical support to examination centres which lack adequate printing and xerox machines.
"We are testing this on pilot basis during the compartment exams where question papers are being delivered via e-mails 30 minutes ahead of the exam. The pass words are sent separately to the centre superintendent and the question papers are printed and photocopied at the centres itself," CBSE Secretary Anurag Tripathi told reporters.
"We are only going to select big schools as centres which have adequate infrastructure. Those which will be found lacking that, we will hire an agency to provide the logistical support to them. The printing cost will be borne by CBSE only. There is not going to be a major difference in the expenditure in the current process and the proposed one," he added.
However, a final decision in this regard will be taken soon after an analysis of the pilot run as well as the logistical demands, Tripathi said.
"Another possibility we are looking at is to start at a lower scale of sending encrypted question papers where the number of students are low. It all depends now how prepared we are with the logistics," he said.
According to CBSE, a centre with around 500 students will need to print 8000 pages of question papers in one subject.
"The logistics needed for that is printers, internet, photocopiers, uninterrupted power supply or power backup. There are 1200 KVs and 600 Navodaya Vidyalayas, which are complete with the infrastructure. CBSE needs around 4500 centres, but in this system the number of centres may decrease marginally.

We will look for centres which have higher capacity and the necessary logistics first. This may bring down the number of centres, but we will ensure that students don't face any difficulty. Those centres which lack certain logistics, CBSE will help, including the remote centres, said Tripathi.
On whether the logistics will need major investment and whether the board is prepared for that, the secretary said that it will be compensated by the cost required for delivering hard copies of question papers.
We will save on the cost of transportation, bank custodian charges, packing, printing which will easily compensate the cost of logistics necessary for the delivery of the encrypted question papers, he said.
The CBSE had to conduct the economics retest on April 25, nearly a month after it was leaked, triggering widespread outrage and confusion among students across India.
There were also reports of the CBSE's Class 10 mathematics paper being leaked, but the board decided against a retest of the Class 10 paper, saying the examination was "largely an internal segment" of the school education system.

The HRD Ministry had set up a committee to examine the process by which the CBSE conducts examinations. The seven-member panel, headed by former HRD secretary Vinay Sheel Oberoi, suggested measures to make the process "secure and fool-proof".
"The board is yet to take a call on recommendations made by the committee," Tripathi said.
Apart from the personal details of students like date sheet, roll number and centre number, the Board has decided to include the category of the PwD students and exemptions provided, Timesnownews.com reported.
So, the students under the PwD category can now find the exemptions provided to them on their Admit Cards.
Please note, it is extremely important for student to check the exemptions provided. The code for the provided exemptions reportedly include: S = Scribe E = Extra Time A = Assistive Device L = Large Font P = Adult Prompter.
In case of any error in the Admit Cards related to the exemptions, students can apprise their respective school or institution with the issue for early rectification.
The CBSE Class 12 has begun on Friday and will conclude on April 3 while Class 10 exams will begin on February 21 and end on March 29.
Seeking to connect with students in the tech lingo they are so familiar with, the CBSE chief said, "Face your books and insta' your studies and let the hashtag studentunstoppable' trend".
The schooling years are the best years for scholarship and education because students' hard disc' space is the most receptive in these years. You should let your mind's web browser' loose and download' several life competencies and life skills," Karwal said in a letter to students.
There are messengers' (mentors) to help you identify the spams' and Ensure the bandwidth' of learning is fast and vast. Don't forget you have multiple options such as autocorrect', backspace', pause', shift' or delete' to add value to education, she said.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Chief advised students to "firewall" all distractions for the time being and let fun and games go to the random access memory', while stressing that exams should not be a measure of one's success or failure.
"Exams are like Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) of your lives that are meant to help you locate the real possibilities and resources that lie within you by optimising your knowledge search engine'", she said.
"In the future you will not even remember the marks you get now but let the days you spend working hard for exams be router' for a fulfilling life, Karwal said.
As per reports, a decision in this regard was taken by the board's examination committee and was approved by the governing body recently. "A single certificate at secondary level examination combining the language of the marksheet and certificate shall be issued for class 10 examination with effect from 2019," a senior board official told PTI.
He further said that the document shall be treated as a certificate and candidates shall have to fulfill requirements as notified by the board for obtaining a duplicate one.
NOTE: Class 12 students will, however, continue to get separate documents for marksheet and certificate of examination.
If a student has appeared for an improvement examination, he or she shall not be issued a separate pass certificate for that subject but only a separate statement of marks obtained, the official added.
The board has also decided that from 2020 academic session, compartment candidates will be given three chances to appear for the examination, while candidates who failed will be allowed to appear for the examination next year and practical marks will be carry forwarded.
"The affiliation bye-laws have been amended to incorporate the changes," the board told PTI.
A senior CBSE official informed about the decision that was taken at a recent meeting of the board's governing body.
"The CBSE is introducing artificial intelligence as an optional 6th subject at Class IX from the session 2019-2020 onwards. To enhance the multidisciplinary approach in learning and also to sensitise the new generation, it was decided that schools may start AI "inspire module" of 12 hours at Class VIII itself," the senior board official said.
He further informed that, the board has also decided to introduce yoga and early childhood education as elective subjects at senior secondary level.
"The decision was taken considering the demand of schools supplemented by various reports that projected the huge requirement of yoga professionals and early childhood educators," the official said.
As per norms, the CBSE is likely to offer a skill subject, at secondary level as additional sixth subject along with the existing five compulsory subjects.
In case a student fails in any one of the three elective subjects (science, mathematics and social science), then it will be replaced by the skill subject (offered as a 6th subject) and result of Class X will be computed based on best five subjects.
However, if a student desires to reappear in the failed subject, he or she may appear along with the compartment examination.
Similarly, at senior secondary level, out of the 42 subjects the board has advised schools to offer at least one or more skill-based subject as elective subject.
The board has advised schools to offer at least one or more skill-based subject as elective subject out of the 42 subjects.
"The board will provide necessary support and guidance towards training and capacity building of teachers and other aspects for the successful implementation of skill subjects from time to time," the official added.

As per reports, three chapters from the Democratic Politics Book 1 – ‘Democracy and Diversity’, ‘Popular Struggle and Movements’ and ‘Challenges to Democracy’ will be assessed in the periodic tests but will not be evaluated in the board examination,” CBSE said in a recent notification.
The decision was taken as a part of the curriculum rationalization exercise undertaken by the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry to reduce the burden of the curriculum on the students, the Board said.
Talking about the relevance of these chapters, it can be said that the chapters were indispensable, particularly when India is a democratic country.
Meanwhile, the step by the CBSE has drawn criticism from academicians, teachers and thinkers who said that the decision is wrong and an overstep by the Board.
“Chapters such as ‘popular struggle’ and ‘movements and challenges to democracy’ have their own importance in making of the child understand past struggles. The child’s knowledge of these topics must be holistically evaluated. What is being done is not healthy and will have a harmful long-term effect," reported Hindustan Times quoting Professor Satvinderpal Kaur of the department of education, Panjab University.
"CBSE is taking away the flexibility from the textbooks. The NCERT should be the body that should decide the curriculum. However, CBSE is calling the shots," said former NCERT chairman, Krishna Kumar, as per the reports.
The NCERT had earlier dropped three chapters on democracy, caste struggles and colonialism from Class 9 syllabus last month.
Rejecting all the claims, CBSE recently issued a statement clarifying that no chapters have been deleted from Social Science Class 10 syllabus and all the chapters will be studied by the CBSE Class 10 students.
At a presser, CBSE reportedly stated, “The decision of the board to make few chapters as part of internal assessment is based on the sound rationale in view of the feedback from stakeholders and recommendations of the Committee of Courses of Social Science.”
CBSE further clarified that the alleged dropped chapters will only be part of internal assessment, but not the final board exam with focus on strengthening its evaluation process including the school based/internal assessment, in order to augment the skill set being acquired by the students.
Earlier, there were reports that chapters on democracy and diversity from CBSE Class 10 Social Science Syllabus for the current 2019-2020 academic session have been dropped. The step by the Board had drawn criticism from academicians, teachers and thinkers who said that the decision was wrong.

It is worth mentioning that CBSE had in March 2018, said that to facilitate the students who are participating in International Sports Events and studying in CBSE affiliated schools in Class X or XII for the purpose of appearing in the Board's examination.
The decision was taken as part of the initiatives taken by the Government of India to promote sports amongst youth.
Now, to further promote sports, CBSE has decided to extend this facilitation to students of all classes where their Board examinations coincide with their participation in any National/International Sports event including dates of journey for that event that is recognized by Sports Authority of India and the student will be representing India.
For such students, their examination will be conducted at a later stage as decided by CBSE, a release of the Board read while releasing Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for all such students.
A Look at the Details of the SOPs
The Board further notified that in no case such candidates will be permitted to appear along with the compartment exam as the compartment examination is conducted only for those candidates who got compartment in the main examination.
CBSE has framed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools to deal with the requests for subject change in class 10 and class 12. According to a relese of the Board, classes 10 and 12 are a two-year course, hence, schools are expected to counsel students into opting subjects in classes 9 and 11 which they would like to continue in the next class and are available in the school.
"Several students want to change subjects when they move to class 10 and 12 on various grounds. As per revised norms, any request for change of subjects will be accepted provided such a request has been made before July 15 of the academic session. In order to streamline the process, the board has framed SOPs for the purpose," PTI quoted a senior board official as saying.
"In no manner, any request to change the subjects that parents will make their own arrangement of study will be accepted by CBSE. Now, almost all the subjects have internal assessment and schools need to provide the performance in internal assessment of students," the official added.
As per the SOPs, a student or parent is supposed to submit an official request to school along with documents supporting the reason behind the move.
"The schools need to analyse whether the request for subject change is genuine and what was the performance of the student in classes 9 and 11 and whether the child is unable to cope up.
"The schools also need to consider whether the new subject requested is available in school, selected combination of subjects is valid as per the scheme of studies and the school has affiliation in respect of that subject from affiliation unit or from skill education unit in case of skill subjects," the official said.
Schools have been directed to compile all such requests and send to regional offices of CBSE.
"Schools also need to ensure they are not deviating from the directions. If in any case it is found that instructions have not been followed, CBSE will reject the request for which school will be responsible," the official added.
The CBSE on Friday informed that the CTET exam will be conducted on December 8. The test will be conducted in as many as 20 different languages in 110 cities across the country.

Though the question paper was being circulated on the Internet as linked to one of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan schools, the KVS termed the paper fake, and the Central Board of Secondary Education said it has no role in setting question papers for internal exams.
"Shocked and appalled to see that a Class 6 Kendriya Vidyalaya exam contains questions that propagate caste discrimination and communal division. Those who are responsible for drafting this Question Paper must be prosecuted under appropriate provisions of law," Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president Stalin said in a tweet.
The multiple-choice question asked what does the word Dalit' means and the listed options included foreigners, untouchables, upper class and middle class.
AMMK leader TTV Dinakaran issued a statement lashing out at CBSE saying, "I strongly condemn the CBSE for having a lesson on a sensitive topic without basic understanding on how it would impact the minds of the students".
"It is wrong to ask questions in this manner to young children. It sets a bad precedent. Action should be taken against people who have done this," he added.
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan said it has noticed the fake question paper being circulated on social media claiming it to be of some Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tamil Nadu or Puducherry. "However no evidence has so far been brought to the notice of KVS which may establish that the question paper belongs to a Kendriya Vidyalaya," it said in a statement.
The CBSE said it does not set question papers for internal exams in "any class for any school". "It only conducts board exams for class 10 and 12. The said references to CBSE are therefore found incorrect and unfounded, a senior board official said.
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan also said its RO has reported that none of 49 KVs of Chennai region has prepared such questions.
"It is therefore to clarify that the said Question Paper is NOT related to any Kendriya Vidyalaya. Social media users are requested to refrain from spreading misleading messages."
"Your attention is invited to circular no. CBSE/Reg/112510/2019 Dated 08.08.2019 wherein at Sr. No. 6 of page 3 it has been stated that "Schools are requested to fill in full name of the candidate, mother, father/guardian. Abbreviations should be avoided as they create problems for the students' in future," the CBSE release read.
Further elaborating on the matter, CBSE said:
Many requests for correction in the name of candidate, mother, father/guardian i.e., from abbreviated name to full name and adding of surname etc. are being received by the CBSE from the students after passing Class X and Class XII to meet the requirements of Foreign Universities and Passport etc.
Accordingly, instruction has been issued for filling in full name of candidate, mother, father/guardian during the registration of student for Class IX only.
It may be noted that above said instructions are not for Class X, XI and XII.
The students of Class IX only will provide the details i.e., name in full form so that no such request from the batch of current Class IX is received by the CBSE, once these candidates pass out of Class X / XII.
In Class X List of Candidate, the name of candidate, mother, father/guardian will be same as mentioned in registration in Class IX.
As Class XI students have already been issued Marksheet cum Passing Certificate in Class X, hence, they will mention their details in Class XI Registration in accordance with the Class X details.
The students of Class XII will also give the details in List of Candidates based on the information provided in Class X to ensure that their personal data of both Class X and XII are consistent with each other.
Schools will guide the students and their parents, and will also take all necessary action accordingly, while filling the Registration forms for Class IX and XI and List of Candidates of Class X and XII, the release added.
It is worth mentioning that the CBSE has increased fee this year. As per the revised norms, the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students will have to pay Rs 1,200 for five subjects, while earlier they were supposed to pay Rs 50 for the same, a hike of 24 times. The general category students who were paying Rs 750 earlier, will now pay Rs 1,500 for five subjects.
