Bhubaneswar/Alur (Karnataka): In its fourth game, team Odisha suffered a heavy defeat in the hands of Karnataka in Group A game of Vijay Hazare Trophy domestic one-day cricket tournament at Alur. The home side thrashed Odisha by a big margin of 133 runs and secured four points from the game.

Chasing a mammoth target of 354 runs, Odisha was bowled out for only 220 in 41 overs. After adding 118 runs for the opening wicket, Odisha kept on losing wickets at regular intervals. After knocks of 58 and 53 by openers Anurag Sarangi and Rajesh Dhuper respectively, slow left-armer Jagadessha Suchith tore into Odisha batting line-up by picking up five wickets and ending with figures of 5/34 in 10 overs.

Suchith also effected a run-out by sending set batsman Abhishek Raut (36) back into the pavilion. Two other spinners Shreyas Gopal and K Gowtham scalped two wickets each for Karnataka.

Earlier in the game, being put into bat by first-time Odisha skipper Subhranshu Senapati, Karnataka got off to a flying start with both the openers adding 190 for the opening wicket in 30.3 overs. Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair mustered 102 and 100, respectively to provide the home team a solid start.

Pavan Deshpande (54), Shreyas Gopal (25) and K Gowtham (47) with their brisk knocks in the middle order propelled Karnataka to mammoth total of 353/6 in 50 overs.

Odisha with eight points from four games will now meet Baroda in its next game tomorrow.
