Pak players lawyers satisfied with hearing

The three member ICC tribunal acquitted Asif, Aamer and Salman Butt of any wrongdoing during the Oval Test but delayed its decision on charges for the Lord’s Test against England.

Asif’s lawyer Alexander Cameron was pretty happy with the way things have gone so far.

“The good thing is that Asif has been cleared of charges brought against him for the Oval Test against England. We are satisfied with the way things went at the hearing and my client is hopeful that on February 5 the tribunal will deliver a verdict based on the principles of justice and fairness,” Cameron said.

He also made it clear that neither he nor his client were concerned over the delay by the tribunal in announcing its verdict on whether the charges against the players could be upheld or not.

Shahid Karim, the lawyer for Aamer, told Geo Super channel that the ICC had wanted the tribunal to deliver a verdict on Tuesday but the tribunal—members sought more time to study the evidence and statements made during the hearing.

“The ICC feels that it has given enough evidence to penalise the players but the tribunal has still not reached a unanimous decision,” he added.

He added that if the tribunal decides to punish the two players then they would contest and argue over the duration and severity of the punishments.

Asked about the chances of Aamer getting a lighter punishment due to his young age, Karim said this would only be known when the tribunal will give its verdict.

He said the proceedings of the case had been completed at the six—day hearing itself and on February 5 the tribunal only has to deliver its verdict.
