Vadodara: Teams from 16 countries will participate in the first Kabbadi World Cup for women to be held in north Indian city Patna from March 1 to 4.

Besides hosts India, USA, UK, Canada, Italy, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, Turzikimistan, China Taipei, Iran, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Sri Lanka are set to take part in the competition, informed the President of International Kabbadi Federation and President of Amateur Kabbadi Federation of India (AKFI), Janardan Singh Gehlot.

Gehlot was in the city for the 38th junior National Kabbadi Championship 2011, held at the premises of the Gujarat Public School.

With India hosting the tournament, AKFI is looking at uplifting the standard of kabbadi. "AKFI aims at uplifting the standard of the sport in the neighboring countries of India," said Gehlot.

It also organises international kabbadi tournaments for both men and women, in India. Sub-junior, junior nationals and zonal competitions are also held by AKFI, to promote the game at the local level.
