Chennai: NorthEast United FC displayed a power packed performance to outclass hosts Chennaiyin FC 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Wednesday.

Diomansy Kamara and Silas scored in the 44th and 72nd minute for the visitors while Elano Blumer was the only scorer for the home side after he opened the game's scoring in the 33rd minute.

With win, NorthEast FC climb from seventh position to fifth spot with 13 points from nine games, having won four, lost four and drawn one.

On the other hand, Chennaiyin dropped one place to seventh spot with ten points from nine games, having won three, lost five and drawn one.

The match got off to a positive start with home side playing aggressively as Stiven Mendoza ran down the right channel but his delivery evades everyone to go wide out.

NorthEast FC replied well with some quick counter attacks in the next couple of minutes but the home side's defence was tough enough not to let the away side break through.

But in the 33rd minute of the game, Chennaiyin's star player Elano opened the scoring.

NorthEast FC's Javier Lopez won the header against Mendoza but the ball falls for the onrushing Elano who fires it into the back of the net on the half volley.

The away side responded perfectly, with just minute to go for the first half whistle Kamara with his goal made it 1-1.

In the second half, both the teams got enough chances but failed to convert it into fruitful results.

But substitute Silas who replaced Simao Sabrosa scored within a minute of being introduced in the 72nd minute in what turned out to be the winner for Cesar Farias' side, who have never lost a game to Chennaiyin.

From there on it was difficult for the hosts to make a comeback into the match.

NorthEast next take on Kerala Blasters FC at home on November 15, whereas Chennaiyin face defending champions Atletico de Kolkata in an away match on November 18.
