Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: The negotiations between Prasar Bharati and Star India (host broadcaster) reached a successful conclusion and cricket fans from all across the country can watch Indian Premier League (IPL) matches on Doordarshan now.

Prasar Bharati tweeted, “To bring Vivo IPL 2018 to a wider audience Star TV has agreed to share with Prasar Bharati select matches on a one hour deferred live basis with 50-50 revenue sharing.”

According to Prasar Bharati sources, the IPL content is not being shared under the mandatory sharing act for sports of national importance. Prasar Bharati negotiated with Star for this feed on a 50-50 advertising revenue sharing basis.

Star will be sharing the opening and closing ceremonies of IPL as well as one match every Sunday including the final game with Doordarshan.

The IPL matches will be shown on DD Sports which is available on Doordarshan’s free-to-air direct-to-home platform known as DD Free Dish.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had asked for all the matches with 15-minute delay but Star finally agreed for a few matches delayed by an hour. Star has also agreed to package daily highlights of the matches for the benefit of the viewers of DD Sports.

The TV and digital broadcasting rights of IPL, which starts tomorrow, were bagged by Star India Private Ltd last September for Rs16,347.5 crore for five seasons starting from the 11th.
