India’s fastest woman athlete Dutee Chand wins gold, sets new national record

Bhubaneswar: Odisha sprinter Dutee Chand once again brought laurels by winning gold medal at the ongoing 58th National Inter State Senior Athletics Championships at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati and clocked a record timing to break her own national record.

Dutee set a new national record in the women’s 100-metre event on Friday when she clocked 11.29 seconds in the semi finals of the 100 m sprint event at the athletics championships. She won the final event by clocking a timing of 11.32 seconds.

The 22-year-old bettered her previous record by one-hundredth of a second. Earlier she held the national record of 11.30 seconds, which she achieved at the Indian Grand Prix last year.

The new record will now make Dutee a top contender as she would aim to become the first ever Indian woman to clinch gold medal at the upcoming Asian Games which is scheduled to begin from August 18 at Jakarta.

Similarly, athlete Purnima Hembram also bagged gold in women’s heptathlon at the ongoing championships and qualified for the Asian Games.
