Bhubaneswar: Ace woman sprinter of Odisha Dutee Chand created a new national record at the 20th Federation Cup National Senior Athletic Championship-2016, which began at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Thursday.

Dutee won the gold in 100-metre run with a timing of 11:23 seconds and broke the national record, which was in the name of Rachita Panda (Mistry) of Odisha who set it in 2000.

She also broke the 100-metre qualifying time of 11:32 seconds for the ensuing Rio Olympics.

Though Dutee’s state mate Srabani Nanda came second in the event clocking 11.45 seconds, she failed to overcome the Rio Olympic qualifying timing.

In the men 100-metre run, promising Odia sprinter Amiya Mallick broke the 6-year-old national record set by Andul N Qureshi (10:30 seconds) in the semi-final round clocking 10:26 seconds. But he could not repeat his performance in the final due to injury and finished fourth.

Another woman sprinter of Odisha Jauna Murmu, representing ONGC, also qualified for the final in 400-metre run. The final will take place tomorrow.

The meet will conclude on April 30.
