Bhubaneswar: With Bhubaneswar getting ready to host the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 from November 28 to December 16, the Odisha Police has decided to write to the Home Ministry to station National Security Guard (NSG) commandos in the city during the tournament.

After a review meeting held in the State Capital, Odisha DGP Rajendra Prasad Sharma stated, “For full-proof security during the Hockey World Cup, we will deploy adequate personnel, use proper technology and ensure better coordination with other security agencies at the stadium and hotels. Apart from this, we will write to the Home Ministry to keep NSG commandos ready locally during the World Cup."

Personnel of the Special Operations Group (SOG), Odisha State Armed Police (OSAP), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Special Tactical Unit (STU) will also be deployed in Bhubaneswar during the prestigious event in which teams from 16 countries are participating.

Sharma added special focus will be on traffic management during the Hockey World Cup. “We will ensure traffic remains streamlined in and around the venue. A few parking places have been identified around the stadium complex which will be utilised in proper manner,” he said.

Among others, many senior police officials were present during the review meeting.

The hockey complex at Kalinga Stadium which has already hosted major events like Champions Trophy Hockey and Hockey World League Final along with a few Hockey India League (HIL) matches is almost ready to host the Men's World Cup after major infrastructure development.
