Bhubaneswar: Indian athletes continued to shine and helped take the country top spot in the medal standings on the third day of the 22nd Asian Athletics Championships here after a 7th gold thanks to a superb performance from Sudha Singh to win the women's 3,000 metre steeplechase.

Sudha finished the top of the podium with a lap time of 9 minutes and 59.47 seconds in front of the enlivened, houseful crowd at Kalinga Stadium.

Among others, Annu R. took silver in the women's 400m hurdles while M.P. Jabir and N.V. Sheena won bronze medals in men's 400m hurdles and women's triple jump events respectively.

Similarly, the 4x100m relay team comprising of Merlin Joseph, Himashree Roy and local stars Dutee Chand, Srabani Nanda won bronze.

India now has seven gold, four silver and nine bronze medals with a total of 20 medals in all competition as it lead the medal standings followed by continental powerhouse China who have 15 medals with five gold. Iran are third on the table with four gold and a single bronze.
