Chennai: The Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) would undertake a World Bank-funded detailed study and coral reef restoration programme in the coastal region of the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujarat, a senior official has said.

"We will undertake the study on the coral reefs in the Gulf of Khambhat in Gujarat. The reefs were earlier found to be destroyed by some private companies. The programme will be on the restoration of the coral reefs. The study is being funded by the World Bank and it would commence this month," ZSI Director K Venkataraman told PTI.

The Rs 2.8 crore project was funded by the World Bank, Venkataraman, who was here earlier this week to attend a function, said. Experts of the ZSI would inspect and examine coastal surface of one sq km and study their status, he said.
