Jorhat: Carcass of an adult tigress with injury marks was recovered from the world famous Kaziranga National Park in upper Assam`s Golaghat district today.

During routine patrolling by the forest guards in the Park, the body of the 22-year-old tigress was found at Holmara camp under its Kohora Range, the Park authorities said.

The injuries and paw marks in the area revealed that the tigress had died after an attack by a male tiger which fatally wounded her by ripping away flesh from her body, the sources said.

So far this year six tigers have died in the KNP with two of them due to natural causes, another two during fights with other tigers, one was killed by a rhino and another shot dead by the Park security when it attacked humans after coming out from the Park.
